2014 Langi Shiraz

98 points James Halliday Halliday Wine Companion 2017 From the Langi Old Block planted ‘63, matured in French oak (35% new) for 16 months. While full-bodied, this has exceptional poise and elegance, the circus elephant standing on a ball. Intense red, purple and black fruits, ripe tannins and cedary oak are members of an orchestra playing Beethoven.

huonhooke.com, September 2016 Deep, youthful red/purple colour, the bouquet intense and full of white pepper and mixed spice aromas. It's full-bodied but elegant as well, with an abundance of fine tannins which coat the palate like lace. It's fruit-sweet in the middle and far from austere. A very fragrant, aromatic cool-climate shiraz of real style and panache.

95 points Campbell Mattinson Wine Front Online, 4 August 2016 They’ve been producing shiraz from this vineyard for over 35 years now. It’s a fine-grained wine. More about finesse than flounce. Black pepper and black cherry combine with campfire, crushed dry leaves and earthy, undergrowthy characters. Oak is subtle but important, particularly texturally; it adds the polish, the sheen. It’s so fresh at the moment it almost feels/tastes justfermented. Tannin is both ultra-fine and ultra-firm; at no time though is the flow of flavour interrupted. Floral characters play about the edges. You’d have to say this is a top-notch example of cool climate, mature vine shiraz.

96 points Gourmet Traveller Wine, February 2017 In Langi style, a fragrant, aromatic cool-climate shiraz of class and ganache. White pepper and mixed spice. Elegant-bodied, with racy tannins coating the palate. Sweet fruit in harmony. A superb wine.

98 points Tyson Stelzer, Wine Business Magazine Top 20 Wines of the Year under $100, April 2017 2014 is the essence of Langi Shiraz, delivering the signature pepper of this revered site in a beautifully defined blanket of black plum and blackberry fruit. It’s at once powerful and towering and at the same time honed and refined, impeccably structured with super-finely textured tannins and exact, bright acidity. The finish is a revelation; fine, crunchy and so, so long. It will live very long.
