B i ll Bon ew i tz Head Coach
(Please Print)
Bonewitz began his tenure at Alvernia in 2006 as the assistant coach, before being named the head coach for the 2007 season. This was his 24th year of coaching after spending 10 years at Ursinus College, from August 1992 through January of 2003. He was the men’s assistant coach and recruiter for the first two years and spent the final eight instituting and heading up the women’s program. Prior to that, he spent 12 years coaching select and premier levels of youth teams in both Eastern Pa.Youth Soccer for 11 years and one season in Eastern New York Youth programs. During this time Bonewitz founded and directed the Suburban Storm Soccer team under the specific purpose of exposing talented high school seniors from the four surrounding counties (Montgomery, Berks, Chester and Bucks) to college coaches. Bonewitz had the opportunity to coach his college squad at Ursinus in three international friendlies against FC Arsenal in London, England and two Coca Cola women’s teams from Hamilton, Bermuda. His level of coaching experience has also been expanded by two trips to Europe, in the early 2000s, where he was able to observe and learn from training techniques of professional squads in England, Holland, and Germany. Traveled to Rassau to face the U-20 Bahamian National Team. Bonewitz started his post secondary education upon returning from Vietnam in March of ‘68 at then Wesley Junior College, and continued after his service ended at Mitchell Junior College in New London, Conn. He then went onto University of Connecticut-Avery Point and finally to Storrs. Bonewitz received the “Ace Bailey” Award from Ursinus College for outstanding contributions to the enrichment of the college’s athletic programs. Coach Bonewitz is the all-time leader in coaching wins and was named 2010 MAC Commonwealth Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Crusaders into the conference playoffs for the first time in the program’s history.
