THE WEEK AHEAD The Southern Connecticut State University women’s soccer team heads back out on the road for a pair of conference matches against American Int’l on Tuesday and Southern New Hampshire on Saturday. ALL-TIME VERSUS AIC AND SNHU The Owls hold an 11-6-1 advantage over American Int’l, and a record of 8-6-3 against Southern New Hampshire throughout program history. PREVIOUS MEETINGS American Int’l blanked SCSU 2-0 in their last meeting on Sept. 24, 2013 at Jess Dow Field. The following week, the Owls shutout SNHU by a score of 2-0. Senior Suzane Pires and junior Hannah Spreckley each scored for the Owls, while senior goalkeeper Camille Fantini earned the shutout in net, making six saves. SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS American Int’l (0-4-1, 0-2-1 NE-10) has been outscored 7-3 by their opponents through their first five matches. Senior Sonia Basma, and juniors Alyssa Werbicki and Brittany Barry have all scored one goal each. Senior Samantha Tabak has made 18 saves, while playing every minute of each game so far this season. All five of AIC’s matches have been decided by one goal or less so far this season. SCOUTING THE PENMEN Southern New Hampshire (2-3-1, 0-2-0 NE-10) are coming off a 3-0 defeat against nationally-ranked No. 1 Saint Rose on Saturday. Entering this week, the Penmen are winless over their last four matches, including two conference losses against two undefeated, nationally ranked teams in Adelphi (No. 13) and Saint Rose (No. 1). Freshman Alena Woodarek has scored in both Penmen victories this season. She shares the team lead in goals with junior Morgan Branco, who have two goals each. IN THE PRESEASON NORTHEAST-10 COACHES POLL The Owls were picked ninth in the Northeast-10 Preseason coaches poll. LAST TIME OUT The Owls picked up a 1-0 victory on Saturday in their home opener against Franklin Pierce. Sophomore Kieran DeBiase assisted on a ninth minute tally by Caroline Staudle for Southern’s lone goal of the match. Sophomore keeper Erica Ridella made nine saves in goal to record her first career shutout. WELCOME TO THE CLUB The Owls welcome 10 newcomers to the squad for the 2014 season - Hannah Bodner, Victoria Buonanni, Victoria Conde, Brooke Davis, Erica Friel, Kimberly Livecchi, Taylor Moore, Marissa Pearson, Betti Worth and Kasie Wilk. THE CAPTAINS Head Coach Adam Cohen has announced that seniors Hannah Spreckley and Sarah Brochu will serve as team captains for the Owls this fall. LOOKING BACK AT 2013 The Southern Connecticut State University women’s soccer team enjoyed a fine 2013 season and narrowly missed out on a berth in the Northeast-10 Tournament. The Owls finished the year with seven wins. The team also excelled in the classroom, as they were once again honored by the National Soccer Coaches Accosiation of America with a Team Academic Award for posting a cumulative team grade point average of higher than 3.0. PIRES NAMED THIRD OWLS’ ALL-AMERICAN Senior Suzane Pires became the third player in Owls’ history to earn All-America honors when she was recognized by the NSCAA at the conclusion of last year. She joins Theresa Uliano and Beba Stratakis as Owls’ All-Americans. PIRES EARNS ALL-REGION HONORS For the third year in a row, Suzane Pires was named to the All-Region teamfor her play during the 2013 season. TWO NAMED ALL-NEW ENGLAND, ALL-ECAC Hannah Spreckley and Suzane Pires were both selected to the All-New England and the All-ECAC teams for their play during the 2013 season. OWLS THRIVE INDIVIDUALLY IN THE CLASSROOM From the academic standpoint, the Owls were honored with the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the fifth year in a row. Twenty-one student-athletes were also named to the NE-10

Commissioner’s Honor Roll for posting a semester grade point average of at least 3.0. PAIR COLLECT ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS Hannah Spreckley and Suzane Pires were recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference for their play during the 2013 season. Pires collected First-Team All-League honors, while Spreckley was named to the Second-Team. ON DECK Next week, the Owls return home for a pair of conference matchups against Le Moyne on Wednesday, October 1 and Assumption on Saturday, Oct. 4.
