2014 willamette valley pinot noir trisaetum story In 2003, Andrea and James Frey founded Trisaetum in one of the few places where climate, soil, and entrepreneurial spirit combine to produce some of the world's best wines. Today, the family owned and operated winery in the heart of Oregon's Ribbon Ridge AVA produces small lots of acclaimed Pinot Noir and Riesling from its three estate vineyards.
winemaker’s notes This Pinot Noir is a combination of barrels from our three estate vineyards, representing the best AVAs of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Brilliant ruby in color, with a captivating perfume of dark cherry, blueberry, sandalwood, and Asian five spice. Deeply complex flavors of cocoa and cherry are layered with savory notes of star anise and chai tea spice. Vibrant acidity is balanced by smooth finely-textured tannins and a creamy mouthfeel, lingering with great finesse on the lengthy finish. Enjoy this classic “Oregon” Pinot Noir now and over the next 8-10 years.
vintage & winemaking The 2014 harvest was one of the earliest and most plentiful in Willamette Valley history. We began to harvest Pinot Noir on September 9th starting at our Ribbon Ridge estate, and finishing October 5th with the Coast Range estate. Another first for the 2014 vintage was that we chose to pick our Riesling and some Pinot Noir in two pick periods rather than one. The reason for that is we find our Riesling and Pinot have two aromatic and flavor peaks, and by picking the fruit at these two peaks, it allows us to add yet another dimension and complexity to the wines.
estate vineyards Coast Range Estate: 17 acres of Pinot Noir are planted in a unique mix of volcanic and marine sedimentary soils on the cooler and very steep slopes of our vineyard in the Coast Range at the southernmost tip of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Ribbon Ridge Estate: 22 acres of Pinot Noir are planted in high-quartz sandstone soils at the warmest site of our three estates in the heart of the Ribbon Ridge AVA. This estate is also home to our modern winemaking facility. Wichmann Dundee Estate: 6 acres of Pinot Noir are planted in volcanic Jory soils typical of the Dundee Hills AVA. This old vine site is also the highest in elevation, at 700 feet, of our three estate vineyards.
