This Week in @NDSUsoccer: NDSU Hosts North Dakota Friday, Travels to Iowa State Sunday The North Dakota State University women’s soccer team will host the University of North Dakota at Dacotah Field on Friday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m. before traveling to Ames, Iowa, for a road match with Iowa State on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. The Series Against North Dakota Friday’s match against UND will mark the 11th meeting in the all-time series that dates back to 1999. NDSU currently leads the series, 5-4-1, after defeating North Dakota at home last season, 1-0, on a goal from Lauren Miller in the 63rd-minute. The Series Against Iowa State Sunday’s showdown at Iowa State will be the sixth meeting in the all-time series that dates back to 1996. The Bison trail the Cyclones in the series, 0-4-1. Last season, Iowa State defeated NDSU in Fargo, 1-0, via a goal in the 82nd-minute. About North Dakota • North Dakota enters the week at 2-2-1 overall after tying Omaha on Sept. 6, 1-1, in double-overtime. • UND was picked to finish 11th out of 11 teams in the 2015 Big Sky Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll. • Last season, North Dakota was just 1-15-1 overall and finished 11th in conference play at 0-10-0. • Through five matches, UND is led by a trio of players with two goals in Zoe Foster, Katie Moller and Veronica Kessler. Foster leads the team in shots (20) and shots on goal (14), while Moller and Kessler each have one game-winning goal. • Goalkeeper Olivia Swenson has started all five matches for UND, compiling a 1.15 goals against average (GAA) with 44 saves, one shutout and a 2-2-1 record. Swenson has allowed six goals in 470 minutes between the pipes. • As a team, North Dakota is averaging 1.60 goals per game while limiting its opponents to 1.20 per game. UND has registered a Big Sky-high 70 fouls so far in 2015 to go along with six yellow cards and one red card. • UND is under the leadership of third season head coach Matt Kellogg (3-20-1 record at North Dakota). About Iowa State • Iowa State is 4-2-0 overall entering the weekend. The Cyclones will face in-state rival Iowa in Iowa City on Friday before entertaining the Bison Sunday in Ames. • The Cyclones were picked to finish ninth out of nine teams in the 2015 Big 12 Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll. • Last season, ISU compiled an overall record of 7-11-0 and finished ninth in conference play at 1-7-0. • Through six matches, Iowa State is paced offensively by Haley Albert, who leads the team in goals with three and points with eight. Klasey Medelberg and Lauren Roeling each have two goals, while Taylor Wagner and Koree Willer lead the team in assists with two each. • Goalkeeper Lindsey Hendon has started all six matches for ISU, compiling a 4-2-0 record with four shutouts. She has surrendered four goals while making 28 saves in 544:48 minutes for a GAA of 0.66. Hendon was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week last week. • As a team, Iowa State is averaging 1.67 goals per game while holding its adversaries to just 0.67 per game. The Cyclones have committed 66 fouls, second-most in the Big 12, and have four yellow cards and one red card entering the weekend. • ISU is under the direction of second season head coach Tony Minatta (11-13-0 record at Iowa State).

Herd Quick Hits • NDSU enters Friday’s showdown with UND at 2-3-0 overall after splitting a weekend road trip in California. The Bison fell at UC Davis on Friday, Sept. 4, 2-0, before bouncing back at Pacific on Sunday, Sept. 6, with a 2-1 win. • Junior Lauren Miller and freshman Hanna Norman provided the goals in NDSU’s 2-1 victory at Pacific Sunday, with Miller scoring the first goal for NDSU in the 13th-minute off an assist from freshman Britney Monteon and Norman converting what proved to be the game-winning goal off an Amy Yang corner kick in the 83rd-minute. • Through five matches, Miller leads the Bison and The Summit League with five goals and 11 points, while Yang has a team-high four assists. Seven other Bison have netted one goal so far this season. • Senior goalkeeper Sierra Bonham has started all five matches for NDSU, compiling a 2-3-0 record with one shutout. The Red Deer, Alberta, native ranks second in The Summit League in saves with 31 and fifth in GAA at 1.57. Bonham has allowed eight goals in 459:41 minutes between the pipes. • As a team, NDSU is averaging 2.40 goals per game while holding its opponents to 1.60 per game. The Bison boast a 25-16 advantage in corner kicks taken through five matches. • The Bison welcome back eight starters and 13 letterwinners from last season’s team, including All-Summit League performers in Sierra Bonham, Lauren Miller, Meghan Johnston and Amy Yang. • NDSU welcomes seven newcomers in freshmen Hanna Norman (D), Roxy Roemer (MF), Holly Enderle (F), Mallory Fenske (D), Taylor Turner (D) and Britney Monteon (F), and transfer Julia Edelstein (GK). • Seven of the Bison’s first nine matches will be played away from the friendly confines of Dacotah Field. NDSU’s lone home matches during that span will be the regular season home opener on Aug. 28 with St. Cloud State and against North Dakota on Sept. 11. • NDSU was picked third out of nine teams for the second consecutive year in The Summit League Preseason Coaches Poll. • North Dakota State returns 77 percent of its goal scoring from last season.

Rising to the Top Bison goalkeeper Sierra Bonham became the North Dakota State career leader in saves with 321 after making four saves at Pacific Sunday, passing former NDSU standout Kalani Bertsch, who tallied 318 saves from 2008-11. Instant Impact NDSU freshmen Britney Monteon, Holly Enderle, Hanna Norman and Mallory Fenske have each netted one goal through five matches. Monteon also has two assists, while Enderle and Roxy Roemer each have one assist so far this season. Rewinding to 2014 • The Bison compiled an overall record of 8-8-2 and a Summit League mark of 4-2-2 last season, finishing fourth in the league. • NDSU qualified for The Summit League Women’s Soccer Championship for the sixth consecutive season. • The Bison had five student-athletes named All-Summit League, including Sierra Bonham, who was named the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year after compiling a 0.94 goals-against average with 5.1 shutouts and a .827 save percentage. Bonham was the first-ever NDSU studentathlete to earn the honor. • Bonham as well as Lauren Miller were selected to the All-Summit League first team, while Meghan Johnston, Anisha Kinnarath and Amy Yang were named second team all-league. • Miller led the team in goals (9), points (19), shots on goal (23) and game-winning goals (5), while Yang dished out a team-high five assists. • NDSU averaged 1.22 goals per game and netted 22 goals on 196 shot attempts. Head Coach Mark Cook Mark Cook is in his fourth season at the helm of the North Dakota State soccer program after being named head coach in 2012. He is the fourth head coach in the 20-year history of the program. Last season, Cook led the Bison to an 8-8-2 overall record and a fourth place finish in The Summit League with a league mark of 4-2-2. North Dakota State made its sixth consecutive appearance in The Summit League tournament and had five student-athletes named All-Summit League, including goalkeeper Sierra Bonham, who was named the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year after compiling a 0.94 goals-against average with 5.1 shutouts and a save percentage of .827. Bonham was the first-ever NDSU student-athlete to earn the honor. Cook came to NDSU after serving as the Director of Coaching at the Minnesota Thunder Academy for 11 years, where he grew a four-team program into one of the premier club programs in the Twin Cities with 65 teams in 2012. Cook holds the United States Soccer Federation ‘A’ coaching license, the highest certification available in the U.S. He also has the NSCAA Premier License and Director of Coaching Diploma. He graduated from Alfred (N.Y.) University in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in communications. He was the starting goalkeeper at Alfred for two years. Up Next North Dakota State travels to Flagstaff, Ariz., to compete in the Northern Arizona Mountain Classic. NDSU will battle the host Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks on Friday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. MT (8 p.m. CT) before taking on Grand Canyon University on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m. MT (11 a.m. CT).
