TUES. 13 STETSON W, 2-1 • Against Temple, Dawkins turned the momentum in UCF’s favor with an equalizing goal in the 54th minute. Stumbling at SMU • Barry opened the scoring in the fifth minute on a counter-attack led by Juan Gamino. • The Mustangs used a stretch of two goals scored by Mauro Cichero in three minutes to take the lead in the 37th minute. Picking Up a Point • UCF controlled play and opened 2-0 advantage at Memphis to open AAC action. • In the 20th minute, Barry sent a cross from the irght wing towards the far post and sophomore Walker Dawkins netted his first goal of the season. • The lead was extended in the 53rd minute when freshman C.J. Campbell found Barry on a counter-attack opportunity. Barry beat the defender and then the keeper low to the right side. • Memphis scored twice in a five-minute span that ended in the 66th minute and the match ended in a 2-2 2OT draw. Drowning the Dolphins • In a match played with persistent rain, Pyysalo tallied two asists and the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win at Jacksonville. • Senior Hadji Barry and sophmore Neico Regent also added goals for the Knights. • Jacksonville cut the advantage to one in the 77th minute, before the Knights closed out the contest.

Citronaut Success • Donning fauxback uniforms, the Citronauts, a mascot that was featured on the school’s 1968-69 student handbook, posted a 2-1 victory. UCF, not Central Florida • Freshman Jakov Basic scored on a free kick from 30 yards out in the 35th minute. • The second goal was netted by sophmore midfielder Matias Pyysalo on a cross from senior Hadji Barry to open a 2-0 lead in the 50th minute. Missed Opportunities • UCF fired 18 shots including seven that were on-target, but all were stopped by the Mercer defense and goalkeeper. • The Bears scored twice, directly from corner kicks, including one that was 14 second prior to the end of the first half. • The Knights yeilded a goal in the seventh minute, but rebounded with a lot of pressure on the offensive attack. The squad had numerous chances, but were unable to find a finishing strike. What an Opening Knight • UCF posted a 5-0 home win over Florida Atlantic, scoring four of its goals in the second half. • Sophomore midfielder Matias Pyysalo tallied six points (2 G, 2 A) in the contest to earn The American Offensive Player of the Week and a nod on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week. • The six points in a match were the most by a UCF player since Deshorn Brown totaled seven against Memphis (10/24/12). • The opening marker in the 11th minute was recorded by sophomore Neico Regent, who aided the Knights to a shutout as a member of the back line and was named The American Defensive Player of the Week. • Freshman forward Gorka Aperribay had an impressive UCF debut with a goal and assist to recieve The American Rooke of the Week honor. • The Knights held a 21-to-7 advantage in shots and yeilded the Owls to just two shots on goal. Former Knights in the MLS • Since head coach Bryan Cunningham arrived at UCF in 2007, he has guided Sean Johnson, Warren Creavelle, Kevan George, Deshorn Brown and Romario Williams into careers in the MLS. • Williams was taken as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft in January by the Montreal Impact. He has made one appearance at home vs. Orlando City, while earning playing time with the Jamaican U23 squad. • Johnson was selected to the roster for the US National Team roster vs. Brazil at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on Sept. 8. • Johnson is a contender to earn a place on the US roster as a goalkeeper in the next World Cup cycle and plays for the Chicago Fire, where he was named the 2014 Team MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. He has 31 shutouts and a 52-52-49 career record. • George was selected in the second round by the Columbus Crew in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. He has made 27 career appearances, includign 11 starts in his MLS career. George played for Trinidad & Tobago in the 2015 Gold Cup. • Creavalle was chosen by the Houston Dynamo in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. He has spent time with Toronto FC and most recently the Philadelphia Union. He has 81 appearances during his career, including 48 starts. • The sixth-overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft was Brown, who has tallied 18 goals in two seasons for the Colorado Rapids. He played his senior campaign at UCF, where he notched 13 goals in 16 games. He is currently being leased to Valerenga in the Norwegian league.
