FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 8, 2015 Oakville, ON – Oakville’s Vital Signs 2015 – setting the stage - Oakville Community Foundation was recently joined by a representative assembly of community leaders from across Oakville and Halton, for a two-day constructive workshop to discuss issues affecting quality of life and community well-being in Oakville. The Foundation was extremely pleased to work with Sheridan College’s Office of Applied Research and Innovation, who together with The Foundation, facilitated the workshops. The goal for each session was to encourage collective brainstorming between agencies, organizations and charities spanning diverse issue areas within Oakville and Halton region in preparation for The Foundation’s new 2015 Vital Signs report, to be released October 6, 2015. “These sessions were designed to both help The Foundation connect with as many agencies as we could, and to better understand the opportunities that exist for potential collaborations and shared opportunities,” says Sarah McPherson, Director Communications & Development. “The sessions did this and more as people in the room were also connecting some very important dots.” In addition to identifying and analyzing the most pressing issues facing the Oakville community, the desired goal of the proceedings was to envision sustainable solutions to these issues, and to explore opportunities for strategic partnerships and organizational synergies. “The Foundation’s role is in helping bring donors and charities together, identifying challenges faced in our community, and working on creative ways to solve problems. Sessions like these, along with the continued discussions we will be having with others unable to attend these sessions, will all go to helping build important partnerships and provide a valuable report,” McPherson said. Community Foundations are recognized for their knowledge of what makes communities tick – and for their passion and innovation – Vital Signs is the key to this and so much more. Central to the project is the concept of collaboration and information sharing, as the published report will be incorporated into program development and planning for local charities. The Foundation wants to ensure the report is accessible and in use by individuals, families, charities and businesses alike, helping everyone connect with what is out there and where help is needed.
