2016 ALUMNI GAME RATED AS “OUR BEST REUNION EVER.”
Varsity Knights Top Alumni 8-1 Take Inaugural Battle For Dennis Sasso Alumni Trophy With players from all six decades of FDU Knights baseball history on hand, the first annual battle for the Dennis Sasso Alumni Trophy was an unqualified success. Described by Head Coach Gary Puccio as “Our best reunion ever,” the October 8 event was attended by 31 baseball alumni. Including the alumni, current varsity team members and the 2017 recruits, nearly 70 Knights and soon-to-beKnights were at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex where the varsity defeated a feisty alumni squad 8-1. Although their bats were quieted by the varsity pitchers, the alumni team members and Coach Sasso rocked the visiting team dugout. Newly inducted Hall of Fame member Mike Policastro credits Coach Sasso keeping the alumni laughing throughout the game. “Coach entertained us with a one funny story after another about his Knights teams. Of course, I was his target in several of those stories, but it’s always been that way with Coach and me. All his players love the guy and we’re really happy that his name is on the alumni trophy. You can bet that we’ll all be back next year to get bragging rights.” Team Captains Matt McCann, Ryan Brennan and Logan Frati accepted the trophy from Coach Sasso which will be on display in the team locker room. On behalf of the team Logan thanked the alumni and Coach Sasso for making the annual contest extra special. “It means of lot to us to have so many loyal alumni show up for the game,” Logan said. “When you know that you have a lot of past players coming around to root for you A and support the baseball program, you always want to do your best.” A great day like this one makes you very proud to be a Knight. We look forward to seeing the alumni at the First Pitch Dinner on February 11.”
