There’s a new and easy way to support IBL. It’s called Amazon smile. It’s quick and simple, and once you set it up you don’t even have to think about it. You go to smile.amazon.com and look for Pick Your Own Charitable Organization. Type in Interior Baseball League Inc and select us! From now on, when you shop at Amazon, go to the smile.amazon.com website instead of just amazon.com, and IBL will receive 0.5% of all your qualifying purchases. You pay the same prices as “regular” Amazon, they just share a little bit with us. Thank you for supporting baseball in the Fairbanks North Star Borough!
2016 IBL Focus Areas: Our three main focus areas for 2016 are Fields, Fundraising, and Communications. You’ll be hearing about the Fields and the Fundraising efforts almost constantly in these Newsletters as we make every effort to improve our communications and awareness of these critical issues.

Fields Annual Restorations This year’s annual field restoration efforts will focus on the 15 most used baseball fields we have. These efforts will include edging the base paths by cutting the grass/sod, pulling all the weeds in the dirt infields, repairing the homeplate area and batters boxes, fixing the pitchers mounds, and in general – making the fields easier to maintain for the season and safe and fun to play on. The IBL fields committee will be scheduling work days in the spring for these Annual Restorations and soliciting help from Parents, Coaches, Players. Thanks in advance for recognizing that a small amount of volunteering will go a long way for a lot of kids. This is simply how it gets done. Game Preparation Tasks It’s all about RAKE, WATER, and CHALK! For the 2016 Baseball season, Pre and Post game field work will be assigned to each team in a typical Home or Visitor format, and will be noted on the schedules. The pregame to-do list is Rake, Water, and Chalk and the post game to-do list is Rake, and water if needed. The concept is super simple and the work is easy too. IBL will be furnishing all the tools and training. Each team’s coach or team parent will coordinate these efforts. Small Improvement Projects The process of identifying and prioritizing small improvement projects that benefit each Division continues. Our goal for 2016 is to accomplish a solid handful of these projects, and build on the momentum each year. You’ll be hearing more about these as the season approaches. For example – the Carpenters Apprenticeship Program has volunteered to build pitchers mounds for the some of the bullpens!
Fundraising To continue keeping the youth baseball program affordable for as many families as possible, the IBL has made the goal of having all teams in all divisions sponsored by local businesses and/or individuals. Our new Sponsorship Coordinator Gina Sliger is now hard at work making that happen. If you know of a likely business or individual that may consider sponsoring a team, please do communicate with either Colleen Angaiak or Gina Sliger.
Resources Coaches, Coaches, Coaches!! If you know you are planning on coaching this year, please sign up early as possible so we know to have save a team for you- in your division. Thanks! Three strikes and you’re in! The A, B, C’s of coaching an IBL team are: 1. Application: The IBL website is up and running and ready for coaches to apply. 2. Background Check: Once you’re on the website application, follow instructions to provide permission for the background check. 3. Continuing Education: CCE classes begin January 31st this year!!
