2016 NEWS & NOTES HOME OPENER The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team will open its season on Sunday, Jan. 10, as the Panthers host EAGL foe Towson, along with Maryland and Eastern Michigan in the squad’s first quad meet at the Fitzgerald Field House. Action is slated to begin at 2 p.m.

The Tigers finished 2015 with a 10-13 record, placing third at EAGL Championships. They are headlined by sophomore Tyra McKellar, who tied for 11th place in the all-around in the NCAA Auburn Regional in -2015. 2016 MEET NOTES
2016 NEWS & NOTES time the two met was at EAGL championships, as Pitt fell 195.225-193.475. The Panthers trail in the all-time series, 11-22. SCOUTING MARYLAND Maryland had their highest finish in 14 years and will look to grow upon that this season after finishing 3rd in the NCAA Regionals. Senior Kathy Tang and sophomore Abbie Epperson were tabbed as Maryland’s gymnasts to watch by the Big Ten. A former EAGL member before joining the Big Ten, the two squads have not met since March 22, 2014. The Terrapins hold the all-time advantage over Pitt, by a 33-20 margin. The two schools will meet again later this season. SCOUTING EASTERN MICHIGAN Eastern Michigan concluded 2015 with a 13-5 record, while placing 4th at the MAC Championships. After a notable freshman campaign, including being named to the Second All-MAC conference team, Kendall Vanetin will be looked upon to carry the Eagles throughout the year. Junior Sydney McEachern and sophomore Catie Conrad are also expected to be key contributors for a squad that was predicted to finish third in the conference by the MAC coaches. Pitt has not encountered Eastern Michigan since earning a victory in 1996. The all-time record between the two schools sits even at 4-4. SENIOR LEADERS • Senior Lindsay Offutt had a strong campaign in 2015, as she won the beam at the EAGL Championships with a career-high score of 9.950. The showing was the second highest in program history in the event. At the NCAA Regionals, Offutt placed sixth on beam. • Tiara Chadran will look to make an impact on bars and vault, in addition to her duties as team captain. She competed in last season’s EAGL Championships on bars and is expected to be one of Pitt’s top contributors in that

event again. • Lisa Soto returns after earning a First EAGL All-Tournament Team selection on beam, where she finished sixth with a career-best 9.825. Soto is smart and efficient in her training and is projected as a major contributor in all events this season. • Miya Dotson looks to be a significant contributor to Pitt’s success this season. She finished ninth in the all-around (38.250) at EAGL Championships last season, granting her Second All-EAGL tournament team honors in the all-around and on vault and bars. • EAGL All-Academic gymnast Jacqueline Lucci is set to compete on bars this season after sitting out last year due to injury. Lucci last competed during her sophomore season when she set a personal best score of 9.800 on bars against NC State. • After missing all of last season due to injury, all-around gymnast Nicole Pearson will miss the entire 2016 season as well after suffering a knee injury. RISING JUNIORS • Kelly Burak looks to add to her outstanding resume, this season as a major beam competitor. Burak enters 2016 with confidence after a sixth place finish overall at the 2015 EAGL Championships, where she also tied her career best score of 9.825 on beam as a sophomore. That mark was good for EAGL All-Tournament First Team honors. • Tracey Pearson enters 2016 as one of the team’s most consistent all-around competitors. As a sophomore, Pearson completed her first year of competition receiving All-EAGL Second team honors in vault and all-around and EAGL All-Tournament First team honors on vault.

• Erika Reichert is expected to make an impact on vault, bars and floor. After her sophomore year, Reichert was selected to the All-EAGL Scholastic Team. SOPHOMORE STANDOUTS • Taylor Laymon is expected to contribute solid routines on bars and beam this season. She looks to improve upon her already impressive resume after collecting numerous honors as a freshman, including First Team All-EAGL on bars. Laymon was selected as the alternate on bars at the 2015 NCAA Regional meet after producing a 9.845 RQS and earned four first place finishes as a freshman. She was selected to the All-EAGL Scholastic Team. • Dani Hall comes into 2016 as a stronger gymnast and is expected to compete in the allaround. Hall competed on the uneven bars and beam last season at the EAGL Championships and was also named to the All-EAGL Scholastic Team. • Maegan Higdon competed on vault at the EAGL Championships a year ago and finished with All-EAGL Scholastic Team honors. • Julia Schindel will sit out the entire 2016 season after suffering a knee injury. She was selected to the All-EAGL Scholastic Team a season ago. NEW FACES • Pitt brings in a talented, hard-working group of freshmen to this year’s squad. Lucy Brett, Brittany West, Charli Spivey, Krista Collins, Kensleigh Owens and Meagan Oscar are the new faces that round out this season’s roster.
