HEAD COACH JOHN HIGGINS
John Higgins enters his seventh season as the UIndy head man in 2016, with an overall record of 66-34-12 as the Greyhound head coach. The Greyhounds turned in another strong performance under Higgins in 2015, finishing 125-3 overall making the program’s second ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Defense was the Greyhounds’ calling card in 2015, as UIndy finished the season with 12 clean sheets, setting a new single season program record for team shutouts.

The Hounds finished second in the GLVC after going 10-3-2 in league play. UIndy led all GLVC institutions when it came time for all-conference selections with nine player spread across the three
Higgins and the Hounds made program history in 2014, finishing 12-5-3 and capturing the program’s first GLVC Tournament Championship. After knocking off Missouri - St. Louis and Drury to reach their third straight conference championship game, the Hounds broke through with a 3-1 win over #3 ranked Quincy University to bring home the GLVC Tournament Championship banner. In 2013, Higgins became just the second UIndy head men’s soccer coach to be named GLVC Coach of the Year. He guided his UIndy team to a program-first NCAA Tournament berth after posting a 15-3-3 record on the season, the most wins in program history. He also mentored the program’s first All-American, in NSCAA First Team and GLVC Player of the Year Ngwese Ebangwese. The 2013 team also broke program records in GLVC wins with 12, and longest win streak (10 matches). Just the second GLVC men’s head soccer coach to ever be named All-GLVC as a student-athlete and the league’s Coach of the Year, Higgins led the program to a second GLVC Tournament Championship final in his career in 2013. The Greyhounds earned their first GLVC regular-season championship as well during the 2013 campaign, taking a co-championship with Quincy after a 12-1-2 GLVC slate. The 2012 Greyhounds closed out the year just outside of the the conference tournament, posting a record of 7-8-3. Higgins mentored 2012 GLVC Freshman of the Year Reid Strain during the season, as well as All-GLVC Third Team selection Bobby Adkins and First Team Academic All-American Ryan Barnett. In 2011, UIndy posted a record of 12-5-1, falling in a shootout in the in GLVC Tournament first round. The Greyhounds posted a program-best nine-game winning streak during the season, which included picking up wins over #4 Northern Kentucky and #24 Quincy. The Greyhounds finished the 2010 season with 10-8 record. The 10-win season was just the seventh in UIndy’s 30-year soccer history. Higgins’s squad posted a Great Lakes Valley Conference record of 8-6, the best in UIndy history. Higgins also coached the Greyhounds to a first-ever trip to the GLVC championship. UIndy became the first #8 seed to win a match in the tournament, much less make it to the championship. A native of Dunfermline, UK, Higgins finished his playing career at UIndy in 2007 and was a two-year assistant coach with the Greyhounds. As a senior, Higgins tallied five goals and two assists for UIndy earning second team All-GLVC and second team NSCAA All-Region recognition. Higgins earned a spot on the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 5 team and earned Academic All-GLVC honors all four years. In all, Higgins tallied 17 goals and 13 assists as a Greyhound. Higgins also earned an All-GLVC honorable mention and was on the NSCAA AllRegion second team as a junior. He was named a 2006 Scholar Athlete Honor Roll member for the North Central Region by the NSCAA. Prior to coming across the Atlantic, Higgins attended Queen Anne High School in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, where he was a Dean’s List student He played for the Celtic Football Club for two seasons before playing for Dunfermline Athletics for two. Higgins earned his bachelor’s degree in PE teaching from the University of Indianapolis in May of 2008. He obtained a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from UIndy in 2010.
