2016 SATs – The big changes! Along with the New National Curriculum for Mathematics, SATs at both the end of Key Stage one and two have changed. The focus is far more on arithmetic and written methods as well as problem solving and reasoning. Children will no longer receive a level at the end of this year but be judged as working at the expected age related objectives.
As we are now working towards the new national
curriculum objectives for each year group, children are becoming more aware of these changes and we are exposing them to the new formats of the SATs papers. Key Stage One Below is an example of the arithmetic questions which are part of the Key Stage One, End of Year SATs which will be taken in the Summer Term of Year Two.
Key Stage One only sit one reasoning paper which tests their understanding of word problems and expects them to apply facts and methods to solve a range of problems.
Key Stage Two Below is an example of the arithmetic questions which are part of the Key Stage Two, End of Year SATs which will be taken in the Summer Term of Year Six. These tests and scores will be passed on to the children’s secondary schools and are therefore sent away and externally marked.
Key Stage Two sit two reasoning paper which test their understanding of word problems and expects them to apply known facts and methods to solve a range of problems.
