Consideration Please To protect your children and for us to maintain good relations with our neighbours, could I please ask those parents who drive their children to and from school to do so with care and consideration.
Book bags Please check your child’s book bag every night for any letters or information for any letters or information from school. We are also making determined efforts to regularly update our website with news and dates. Please regularly check the site at http://www.st-elizabeths.coventry.sch.uk for information.
Contact Information Please ensure that the school has up-to-date contact information for someone who is able to take a call. This will never seem important until a parent cannot be contacted in an emergency. Please do not let that parent be YOU.
Traffic Congestion St Elizabeth’s Road can be very congested at the beginning and end of the school day. At best the congestion can cause irritation and upset amongst parents. At worst a child's life could be at stake. Please do not park illegally, particularly on the pavement apron in front of the school gates. Those that ignore this request may find their registration numbers being taken and reported to the police, which could result in a fine. I would encourage you to walk to school with your child if at all possible and if not, to park in available space away from the school and walk the rest of the way. Your support is, as always, very much appreciated.
Dogs Dogs are not allowed on the school grounds or anywhere in the perimeter of the school. For your child’s safety please respect this rule.
Sports Day Friday 1st July
Lunchtime Arrangements If your child has a school meal, they must have a school meal every day. They can only change from school meals to packed lunches and vice versa after a holiday. Please ensure that your child has their lunchbox with them when they arrive at school. This is to keep any disruption caused in the office to a minimum. Your co-operation in this matter is appreciated.
Injuries
Attendance for week beginning
If your child arrives at school with prior injury or presents with any signs of injury, please inform a member of staff as soon as possible.

Tissue Issue Please send in some tissues with your child if they have hayfever or a cold.
School Website We are trying to review and improve our school’s website. I would really like to include comments and views made by parents. If you could support this by offering your thoughts to children who may approach you with an iPad I would be most grateful. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILDS UNIFORM IS NAMED. As we approach the end of term, I appreciate that many of our families will be considering their holiday plans. Can I remind parents that our last day of term is Wednesday 20th July. Any holiday requests to take children away from school before that date will be declined and the absence will be unauthorised. The last few days of an academic year may not seem important, however I need to remind parents that one way in which our school is judged is by our levels of pupil attendance. Every absence, authorised or not, counts against us and will make it harder for us to be the successful school that we want to be. Please consider the impact of your decisions before making them. Congratulations to our Athletics Team who represented our school with great credit on Tuesday afternoon’s Rally held at Warwick University. Their behaviour and team spirit in supporting each other was particulary pleasing to see. A special word of congratulations to our medalists, Yemi who achieved a Silver Medal in the Y4 Boys Sprint and our 4x100m Boys Relay team who too achieved Silver Medals.
Wednesday afternoon years five and six travelled to the Arts Centre at University of Warwick to perform in a Wider Opportunities concert along with several other Coventry schools. Year five serenaded the audience with a virtuoso guitar performance and year six thrilled with an outstanding steel-pan performance. The children were a credit to the school and had a fantastic time.

IMPORTANT If you are dropping your child off early in the morning for school, after 8am, please can you drop them at breakfast club. There is a £1.00 charge for breakfast club. Thank you in advance. With the Olympics due to be held in Rio later this summer, schools are planning activities to raise awareness of this global event whilst at the same time encouraging children to become more active individuals. With this in mind, on 29th June we are planning to hold ‘Journey to Rio’ which will be a sponsored run/walk around the school field where the children will be sponsored to complete as many laps as they can around the field. The six children who raise the most money will have the opportunity to represent the school the following day when, along with 5 children from each of our partner schools, they will make a 5.7km running/walking circuit of our five schools. We really hope that you will be able to support your child’s efforts to raise as much money as possible.
Wheels Wednesday Wheels Wednesday starts again on Wednesday 15th June weather permitting. Please remember that your child MUST have a helmet in school in order to ride their bike
Year Three This week we have been learning fractions and dramatising our book Anansi The Spider.
Wednesday, four year six students represented us at the book quiz at Cardinal Newman (Leah, Chloe D, Brian and Anna). They came in joint third place. Well done and keep on reading!! Safeguarding at the fence and on the playground.
I am aware that there are times when some school rules appear too strict and rigid to parents. I do hope that parents understand that rules, particularly those related to Safeguarding, are often created and enforced so that opportunities are limited for those who may be looking for opportunities to exploit. For example, by asking adults to stand behind the cones on the playground at the end of the day I hope to send a message to everyone, including those we don’t know, that the release of our children is organised with a clear gap between children and adults at our school. Similarly, I have instructed the children that under no circumstances are they to go to the fence if asked to by an adult regardless of who that adult is. If strangers see that communications through the fence are never successful they won’t bother trying. I know that as caring and loving parents you will wholeheartedly support these attempts to keep your children safe.
Values and Virtues All Catholic schools across the Archdiocese of Birmingham are displaying a “Values and Virtues Tree” in their school. Each half term the children focus on two “Values and Virtues”. The focus for this half term is “Learned & Wise.” The children demonstrating these important values this week are Kaira Y1, Stephanie Y3, the whole Y4 class, Molly and Ollie Y5 and Joel and Anna Y6. Please keep checking the newsletter to see which children are showing such important virtues.
Keep a look out please. If any of our parents notice any suspicious behaviour taking place particularly along the front of our school on St. Elizabeth’s Road please take down details (including taking photos if you can) and notify the school or the police immediately. If in doubt - report it. It may not be anything but we cannot take any chances when it comes to the safety of our school and your children.
