2016 Mission Trips: Covered in prayer, ready to serve… “…Go and make disciples.” After much study, prayer, and discussion, our youth mission committee, led by Brad McCary has selected this summer’s mission trips. Experience Mission exists to spread Christ's love by connecting people together from diverse cultures and backgrounds, developing leaders, and assisting those that live in under-developed communities with resources and support to enable them to reach their own communities and actively participate in extending out to the world."
Blueprint Ministries exists to be part of the urban SanAntonio community sharing in Christ's extravagant love, hope and grace. They are a non-profit ministry in the heart of urban San Antonio that provides servant leadership training for students and adults while restoring homes for elderly, disabled and low-income residents.
The Breakdown Junior High, June 12-17, 2016 Blue Print Ministries, San Antonio Texas $250.00 Per Student Senior High, July 10-15, 2016 Experience Mission, Moore, Oklahoma $300.00 Per Student Cost for each trip includes lodging, meals, supplies, t-shirt, transportation, relevant worship, life changing memories, and fun day (tbd).
From June 12-17, junior high will staying at the Blue Print Ministries camp in downtown San Antonio, equipped with separate guy/girl dorms, plenty of showers, and home cooked meals prepared by local churches! We’ll be playing hard, working hard, and of course praying hard! We’re going to change the lives of homeowners by rebuilding condemned homes that would otherwise force our neighbors into homeless. We will be taping, floating, installing flooring, drywall, paneling, painting, roofing, and restoring hearts in the name of Christ. We’ll also have plenty of time for playing lots of outdoor games while making time for indoor fun, evening worship, an ice cream social. Dont’ forget the fun day (tbd). A typical day at Blueprint goes like this: We wake up bright and early, put on our work clothes and head downstairs for breakfast. Then we load up in teams of 8 youth and 2 leaders to head out for various home sites to do repair. We have lunch on site and we often get the joy of eating with our homeowners. After a full day of construction, we’ll head back to camp where free time and games abound! We then eat dinner at Blue Print and wrap up our day with worship led by local churches and pastors. From July 10-15, our senior high will be traveling to Moore, OK to assist with ongoing clean up from both 2013 tornadoes and more recent storms that have complicated clean up efforts. This is Grand Lakes Pres first time partnering with Experience Mission and after many conversations with EM staff we’re excited to join the efforts ahead. According to EM’s site: The city of Moore is located just south of Oklahoma City, and in May 2013, it was struck by an EF5 tornado. Churches, school buildings, and over 1,000 homes were destroyed in the wake of the tornado, many homeowners left to recover under-insured or uninsured altogether. A true testament to the church body working together for good, our partner organization Serve Moore began as an interdenominational coalition of 11 churches that worked alongside national organizations in the aftermath of the storm and became the number one volunteer organizer assisting individuals and families in Moore. A typical day with Experience Mission will include civic restoration, rebuilding parks, painting schools, and restoring various homes. We will be staying in a local school, sharing meals together onsite, with ample free time for church devotionals and evening activities. This trip will also include a fun half day at the end of the week. To learn more about this mission, go to http://experiencemission.org.
