2017-18 NIU HUSKIES WRESTLING PAW PRINTS MAC WEEKEND
At the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships, the Huskies finished wtih seven grapplers on the podium and seven wrestlers scored points for the team. Northern Illinois finished in Eigth placeout of the eight-team field, and just two points behind seventh place.
OPENING MATCHUPS
After their success at the MAC tournament, the Huskies will be well represented at the national level. Hudkins enters his second NCAA Championship, while this would be Bryce Gorman’s first NCAA Championship A total of two wrestlers qualified for the NCAA tournament, after five punched tickets last season. 125: Brock Hudkins (NIU) vs No. 7 Taylor LeMont (UVU) 184: Bryce Gorman (NIU) vs No. 2 Myles Martin (OSU)
ONE YEAR AGO
As a freshman at last season’s National Championhsips, Brock Hudkins went 3-2. Hudkins dropped his first match to No. 5 Tim Lambert of Nebraska, 9-2. Hudkins’ next three matches went his favor and beat Noah Gonser of Central Michigan, 6-0, No. Josh Tereo of American, 5-2, and Kyle Atkins of Buffalo, 5-2. In his very last match, Hudkins dropped a tough one to Nicolas Piccininni of Oklahoma State, 7-5.
THE YOUTH MOVEMENT
The Huskies return 13 grapplers from last season and Coach Ludwig brings in 11 newcomers. Up and down the lineup, you can find talent at every weightclass. The Future looks bright. Also this season, the Huskies did not have one senior on their roster, however will graduate four starters next season, 133 Alijah Jeffery (133), Quinton Rosser (174), Bryce Gorman (184), and Andrew Scott (165).
