2017-2018 UCF Intramural Sports Kickball League updated 9/15/2017 Intramural Softball rules (ASA) will govern plays on any situation not specifically covered below All decisions by the IM Supervisors and umpires are final. Section 1. The Game ART. 1… Time limit: 55 minutes or 7 Innings, a new inning shall not start after the time limit. Regular season games may end in a tie. Playoffs-Games that are tied prior to the time limit may go into extra innings. ART. 2… Playing field: The distance between home plate and 1st and 3rd base is 60 feet. The pitching rubber is 50 feet from home plate. ART. 3… A kicking lineup consists of 10 players. There is no EH or DH rule. a. A team will bat through its order until 3 outs are made each inning. ART. 4… Teams can only have 10 fielders ART. 5… Ten (10) players constitute a team. A team may begin a game with as few as three (3) players but must have a minimum of seven (7) players by 10-minutes after the scheduled game time. During the game, a team may drop below seven players due to injury or illness only without penalty. If a team drops below seven players due to ejection or disqualification, the game will be forfeited a. A team will receive an out for all missing slots that reach up to the minimum numbers of 7 players

Section 2. Ball and Player Equipment ART. 1… UCF IM Sports will provide a kickball for all games. ART. 2…A guard, cast or brace made of hard or unyielding leather, plaster, pliable (soft) plastic, metal or any other hard substance, even though padded, is not permitted on the finger, hand, wrist or forearm. ART. 3…Supports/braces are permitted on other parts of the body (an elbow brace shall not extend more than halfway down the forearm) if in the judgment of the referee, they are not considered dangerous. The referee shall, however, require a support/brace to be covered or padded if a sharp edge or point is exposed. ART. 4…Artificial limbs are permitted when they are: a. No more dangerous than the corresponding human limb b. Adequately padded. ART. 5…Any equipment that in the judgment of the referee increases a player’s advantage or presents a safety concern, i.e., towel tucked in uniform waistband, is prohibited. ART. 6…Hair devices made of soft material may be worn to control the hair. Hair adornment made of soft material and no more than 2 inches wide may be worn. ART. 7…Players shall not wear jewelry (including during prematch warm-ups). Medical alert medals are not considered jewelry. A medical-alert medal must be taped and may be visible. ART. 8…Players shall not wear body paint or glitter on their hair, face, uniform or body. ART. 9…Players may wear hats, hat must be facing forward and can be worn backwards

Section 3. Legal Uniform ART. 1… All players on a team shall wear: a. It is required that all team members wear the same color shirts with numbers b. Uniforms consisting of shirts and shorts, pants or skirts, in one or two pieces; c. Uniforms that are free of hard and unyielding items (buttons, zippers, snaps, fasteners, etc.) ART. 2…Appropriate playing shoes shall be worn.

Section 4. Kicking ART. 1… Four cones will mark a kicker’s box in a rectangular shape around home plate. a. The kicker must make contact with the ball within the kicker’s box b. The catcher may not occupy the kicker’s box until after the ball has been kicked Note: Catcher must start behind the box ART. 2… All kickers begin with a 1-1 count. Foul balls count as a strike. Note: If a ball is kicked foul with two strikes, the kicker is out ART. 3… Illegal kicks a. Kickers may NOT bunt. Note: Bunting is defined as the deliberate attempt to tap, push, or guide the ball with the foot without

attempting a legitimate swinging motion with the leg. The judgment of a bunt is at the discretion of the umpire. b. Kicker must stay within kickers box, if they kick the ball from clearly outside of the box then a foul ball will be called ART. 4… A walk occurs when a fourth ball is called, the kicker has the option of advancing to first. The runners may not advance, unless the kicker-runner forces them to move up one base.

Section 4. Kicking ART. 5… A Strike: a. For each legally pitched ball passes within two feet of the home plate and the kicker does not swing b. If a kicker swings and misses prior to the ball being kicked or passing within the two feet of the home plate ART. 6… A foul ball is a kicked ball that: a. Settles or is touched on or over foul territory between home and first base or between home and third base. b. Bounce or rolls past first or third base on or over foul territory. c. While over foul territory, touches the person, attached or detached equipment or clothing of a player or an umpire, or any object foreign to the natural ground. d. First hits the ground over foul territory beyond first or third base. e. A kicker makes contact with the ball from outside the kicker’s box area Penalties: 1. Obstruction: A catcher that hinders or impedes a kicker from striking at or kicking a pitched ball will be considered a ball 2. Interference: A runner interferes with a defensive player attempting to field a kicked ball; runner is considered out and all players return to their original base.

Section 5. Pitching ART. 1… Players will pitch to the opposing team ART. 2… Pitchers must start their pitching motion from the spot that designates the pitcher’s mound (no running starts). The ball must be rolled underhand. ART. 3… When the ball is pitched it must: a. bounce at least twice before reaching the kicker’s box b. bounce NO higher than one foot above the ground after the ball first contacts the ground c. stay within two feet of the home plate Penalties: 1. Illegal Pitch: A ball bounces less than twice or bounces higher than one foot above the ground after the ball first contacts the ground, the ball remains live 2. Ball: When the ball passes two feet outside of the home plate

Section 6. Infielder ART. 1… An infielder must remain behind pitching mound until the ball is kicked ART. 2… A fielder may not intentionally drop a fly ball in order to attempt a force out on a runner other than the kicker Note: Runners will be declared safe ART. 3… Obstruction is the act of a defensive team member a. Who hinders or impedes a kicker from striking at or kicking a pitched ball. b. A fielder, who impedes the progress of a runner or kicker-runner who is legally running the bases unless the fielder is: a. In possession of the ball b. In the act of fielding a kicked ball

Section 7. Outs and Fouls ART. 1… A player is out if they have three strikes when kicking ART. 2… A player may become out by: a. catching the ball b. force out at the base c. hitting the runner with the ball below the head and shoulders d. sliding e. leading or stealing f. deliberately attempt to deflect a thrown ball in order to allow another base runner to advance further

Section 8. Out of Play ART. 1… A ball will be considered out of play if: a. it comes in contact with a non-player
