2017 ALL-CENTRAL REGION SOFTBALL TEAM COORDINATOR: DON VIETH • NORTHEASTERN STATE • [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MAY 15, 2017 DON VIETH - NORTHEASTERN STATE (D2CCA SOFTBALL REGION COORDINATOR) TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Augustana’s Sarah Kennedy and Minnesota State’s Coley Ries headlined the 2017 Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA) All-Central Region Team as its Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year. Monday’s announcement included 23 student-athletes from 13 institutions within the NCAA Division II Central Region that includes Great American Conference, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. A total of 14 members are included in both the first team and second team with Central Oklahoma and Minnesota State picking up a region high four honors each. Southern Arkansas led the region with three first team honors, followed by Central Oklahoma and Harding who both had a pair of first team award winners. Harding’s Autumn Humes had the distinction of appearing on both the first team and second team. Humes was a first team honoree as a pitcher and was named to the region’s second team as a designated player which landed within the rules that pitchers can also be nominated as designated player and vice versa. Each member of the first-team All-Central Region squad will join first-team members from each of the other seven regions on the ballot for the D2CAA All-America Team. The teams are voted on by the members of the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR Sarah Kennedy, Augustana Kennedy was named the 2017 NSIC Player of the Year and earned All-NSIC First Team honors for the fourth straight season. The Vikings’ senior shortstop is a two-time NSIC Player of the Year and was named Daktronics Central Region Player of the Year in 2015. Kennedy leads the country in batting average, doubles and total bases. Additionally, she was named as a top-25 Finalist for NFCA National Player of the Year and was a top-10 finalist for NFCA Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2015 Kennedy is the NCAA career active leader (across all three divisions) in hits, doubles, and total bases.

PITCHER OF THE YEAR Coley Ries, Minnesota State Ries is Minnesota State’s all-time leader in wins and strikeouts. The Mavericks’ senior pitcher leads the NSIC opposing batting avg., strikeouts, and wins. She has been named NSIC Pitcher of the Week 12 times in her career. In the regular season, Ries struck out 10 batters in 20 games this season, including a season-high 19 against Lewis. Ries threw back-to-back perfect games this season against Northern State and MSU Moorhead. This season she was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Year for the third time in her career, and garnered All-NSIC First Team honors for the third time in her career.
