return of the mac Sheila McInerney is in her 33rd season as head coach of the Arizona State women’s tennis team. Since her first season as head coach in 1985, Sun Devil women’s tennis has won 481 matches, advanced to 31 of 32 NCAA Tournaments, including 29 straight, and has finished each season in the top 38 nationally. McInerney was named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year in 2016 -- her second time earning the award in her career -- while also receiving the ITA Southwest Region Coach of the Year. Most recently, she was honored with the 2016 ITA Meritorious Service Award, which is annually awarded to an ITA coach who has gone “above and beyond” in their commitment and contributions to college tennis. Her doubles pair of Alex Osborne and Ebony Panoho captured the program’s first Pac-12 Championship under her tutelage. The 2015-16 squad also had their best conference finish (8-4) under McInerney, while also defeating Stanford for the second-ever time in program history -- both under McInerney.
