2017 Cheer Code of Conduct

 

Mission  Statement:   The  SRV  Thunderbird  cheer  program  consists  of  spirited  athletic  performance  teams.  This  sport   requires  the  ability  to  perform  jumps,  dance  routines,  cheers,  stunts  and  tumbling.  These   components  are  executed  at  SRV  Thunderbird  football  games,  rallies,  as  wells  as  regional  and   national  competitions.     Your  child  has  indicated  an  interest  in  becoming  a  member  of  the  SRV  Thunderbird   cheerleading  program.  If  chosen,  several  responsibilities  and  obligations  must  be  assumed  with   the  position.  Theses  qualifications  and  duties  have  been  outlined  in  this  Cheerleading   agreement.  Be  advised  that  this  commitment  lasts  through  November  2017  for  Game  day   squads  and  through  Nationals  in  February  2018  for  Competition  squads.    Please  sign  where   indicated  after  careful  consideration.  

 

1. Qualifications:   A. The   participant   must   have   required   forms   including   current   physical   on   file   before  they  are  permitted  to  attend  clinics/tryouts.   B. The  participant  must  be  physically  fit  to  participate  in  all  aspects  of  the  cheer   program  to  their  best  ability.  Any  physical  limitations  of  the  participant  needs   to   be   detailed   on   the   Medical   information   form   located   on   the   SRV   Thunderbird  website  and  turned  in  before  the  cheer  clinic.     2. Tryouts:   A. The  method  for  selecting  teams  are  as  follows:   1. Scores.   2. Ability.   3. Positions  needed  on  each  squad.     4. Age.   3. Attendance:   A. MANDATORY  attendance  at:     1. All  rallies   2. All  football  games  (any  pre-­‐season  games  as  assigned  by  the  League)   3. All  playoff  games  (Football  season)   4. All  practices  scheduled  throughout  the  year  as  assigned  by  the  coach/advisor   5. Any   performances   assigned   by   the   coach/advisor.   (all   home   halftimes   and   any  away  games,  rallies,  etc)   6. All  regional  competitions  assigned  by  the  coach  (Competition  squads  only)   7. Nationals-­‐  February  2018  (Competition  Squads  only)   8. Competition  dates  are  TBD  and  subject  to  change.  

 

 

  4. Responsibilities:   A. Time  commitment:  Must  have  adequate  time  to  devote  to  your  squad.  As  a   scholar-­‐athlete  your  academics  and  squad  are  first  in  your  time  commitments.   Other  commitments  to  outside  dance  studios  and  clubs/organizations  are   possible  if  they  do  not  conflict  with  any  practices,  competitions  or  games.  Be   aware  that  the  commitment  is  from  August-­‐November  for  Game  Day  squads   and  August-­‐February  for  Competition  squads.   B. Physical  stamina:  Cheerleading  is  time  consuming,  strenuous.  All  illnesses  will   require  a  parent  to  contact  your  coach  directly  via  email  or  telephone  prior  to   the  event.     5. Practice:   A. Practices  will  begin  July  31st,  2017.    Cheer  camp  will  be  July  31st  and  August   1st,  from  9am  to  4pm  for  Game  Day  and  Competition  Squads  and  August  2nd   from  12pm  to  4pm  for  Competition  squads.  Scout  cheerleaders  will  not   attend  this  August  camp.    Scouts  will  attend  a  2-­‐hour  camp  on  August  2nd.     B. Participants  must  be  present  at  all  scheduled  practices.     C. There  must  be  a  valid  reason  for  missing  or  being  late  to  a  practice,  a  game  or   competition,  such  as  serious  illness,  death  in  the  family.    Absences  will  effect   playing  time  at  games  including  half-­‐time  routines  and  competitions.     Absences  also  include  leaving  early  or  coming  late  due  to  other  commitments   outside  of  SRV  Thunderbirds.   D. Three  (3)  unexcused  absences  will  result  in  removal  from  the  program.       E. Attendance  for  practices  is  imperative  for  safety.  If  a  coach  deems  it  is  unsafe   for  a  participant  to  execute  a  routine  due  to  their  absent  at  practice(s),  the   student  will  not  participate  in  the  routine  for  that  game  or  competition.     F. Coaches  reserve  the  right  to  ask  a  participant  who  participates  on  another   cheer  or  dance  team  or  tumbling/stunting  program  outside  of  SRV   Thunderbirds  which  conflicts  with  SRV  Thunderbird  cheer  practices,  games  and   competition  schedules,  to  choose  one  or  the  other.         6. Uniforms:   A. Uniforms  must  comply  with  the  SRV  Thunderbird  dress  code.  Cheerleaders   need  to  be  in  the  correct  uniform  for  safety  reasons.    Cheerleaders  who  are   not  dressed  in  the  correct  uniform  or  practice  attire  will  not  be  able  to   participate.       B. Uniform  fitting  is  May  25th,  2017  (location  and  time  to  be  determined)    

 

  7. Standards  of  behaviors  &  consequences:   A. All  participants  will  be  required  to  abide  by  the  rules  set  forth  in  the  SRV   Thunderbird  Code  of  conduct.     B. Participants  must  abide  by  the  rules  set  forth  in  both  this  agreement  and  the   SRV  Thunderbird  Code  of  Conduct.  Some  examples  of  infractions  include,  but   are  not  limited  to:   1. Tardiness   2. Disrespectful  behavior  and/or  poor  attitude   3. Not  coming  to  practice  or  games  prepared   4. Stunting  without  a  qualified  supervisor  present.     C. Parents  are  expected  to  communicate  issues  or  concerns  directly  to  their   child’s  coach.  If  there  is  no  resolution,  then  please  contact  the  Director  of   Cheer,  Tami  Yi.  Communication  should  be  via  email,  phone,  or  scheduled   appointment.  Discussing  concerns  at  practice  or  during  a  game  is  not  the   appropriate  forum.  Please  also  do  not  threaten  or  be  verbally  abusive  towards   other  participants,  parents,  or  coaches.  If  inappropriate  parental   communication  occurs,  we  may  ask  you  to  meet  with  the  SRV  Thunderbird   Board.     D. Infractions  of  this  contract  may  warrant  meetings  with  the  coach,   parents/guardians,  athletic  director  and  Board.       Our  coaches  take  great  pride  in  running  the  cheer  program  with  professionalism.  In  order  to  do  so  all   cheerleaders  must  follow  the  rules  and  regulations  set  forth  in  this  agreement,  as  well  as  the  SRV   Thunderbird  code  of  conduct.  The  coaches  have  the  responsibility  and  authority  to  take  disciplinary   actions  for  behaviors  that  are  a  detriment  to  the  team.  In  addition,  the  coaches  ask  that  cheerleaders   present  any  problems  or  concerns  directly  to  their  coaches  themselves.  We  expect  students  to   advocate  for  themselves  first,  before  getting  a  parent/guardian  involved.
