2017 CLLL Tryouts National / American / International Leagues

The tryouts process is about to begin. It’s important for you to understand that baseball tryouts can be very emotional, both for the players and the parents. Similar stresses are placed on the evaluators, coaches and league officials. Our League is very competitive and there is incredible talent in our league every year. Whether your player is 10, 11 or 12, please understand we do our best to evaluate your player, and every other, as fairly and equally as possible. With every year’s new tryouts, we try to refine and improve the process wherever opportunity is available. There is no perfect tryout process. Given our facilities, the time of year and the nature of how we form teams, we believe we have created a positive environment to do so. We as a league do not treat the major league players any differently whether they play in our National, American or International Leagues. The rules are the same for all and it is very competitive baseball at all three levels.

Tryouts:         

There will be tryouts for National, American, and International leagues; in that order. The tryouts are closed to the public. Coaches will evaluate players. Tryout jerseys will be handed out at the start of tryouts. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early. Tryouts include the following skills: fielding, throwing, catching and batting. Pitching will optionally also be evaluated if the player chooses. Players will be allowed to warm up during their assigned tryout time. Player tryout times will be posted to the website under the Tryouts tab. Players should arrive with baseball glove, helmet and bat. If a player does not have a bat the league will temporarily provide them with one for the duration of tryouts. If there is a potential time conflict, please call the office. CLLL will do all it can to ensure everyone can find a tryout time, but it is very important that you try out on the dates your league requires as coaches will be evaluating this year.

The Tryout Process: There is no fee for tryouts. Players are to find their tryout time posted on the CLLL website and should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their tryout time. This year all levels of tryouts will be evaluated by the coaches during tryouts. For the American League there will also be an independent tryout panel of evaluators as well. Players will try out for the level they are registered for. Team formation will occur soon after all players try out and results will be posted on our website using the assigned player tryout jersey numbers.

Players are not guaranteed a spot on a team in the league they try out for. If a player does not make a National league team, they will be entered into the tryout pool for the American league and will need to try out again. If a player does not make an American league team, that player will be entered into the tryout pool for the International League. Theoretically, a player could have to try out three times if they do not make a National or American league team. All players trying out for the International league will be assigned to an International league team. It is important that all International league players attend tryouts as their skills will be evaluated and will play an important part in making all the teams as evenly staffed as possible. Coaches’ kids will still try out and will be the first player assigned to a team. All players will be evaluated on the same number of throws, catches, fielding, at-bats and optionally pitching if the player chooses to do so. After tryouts for each league, the teams will be formed via a draft with the coaches and league representatives. The results of each league’s team formation will be posted on the CLLL website. Coaches are NOT to share tryout results with any players or parents after tryouts. Parents are encouraged to respect a 24 hour rule before calling any coaches, league representatives, or CLLL Board members to discuss team formation and tryouts. CLLL reserves the right to modify the tryout process due to unforeseen circumstances.

Team Formation: There will be four National league teams (Only if numbers allow!), four American league teams, and however many are needed for International league. The team formation process will follow Little League rules. For the National league, each team starts with the head coach’s kid, if the coach has a child. If the child is 12 yrs. or older, that player will be assigned to the team as a 3rd round pick. If the child is 11 yrs. or older, that player will be assigned to the team as a 4th round pick. If the child is 10 yrs. or older, that player will be assigned as a 5th round pick. Each National league team must have no more than eight kids of the same age on the team. For the American and International league, each team can start with a coach’s kid. Similar assigning of draft rounds are assigned to the kids depending on how many there are to start with. A coin flip or number draw will be used to determine the order of the draft. Players will be drafted in an up and down snake formation. Each team will draft a player if they do not have coaches’ kids in that round.
