2017 DECEMBER HOLIDAY SOFTBALL CLINICS “Epic” Sports Training and Fitness Academy will again be holding our December Holiday Softball Clinics on Wednesday and Thursday December 27 and 28th. Sign up for 1 or both days. Please sign up promptly by E-mail since these clinics fill up quickly. INSTRUCTORS: Heather Bergman: Assistant Softball Coach, Montclair State University (MSU), 2014-2017; NCAA Division III Eastern Region Coaching Staff of the Year, 2014. As an Assistant Softball Coach for the victorious 2014 NCAA Division III Regional and Super Regional Champion MSU RedHawks, Heather was a member of the coaching staff that represented MSU at the NCAA DIII College World Series. While at MSU, Coach Bergman was an NCAA 2nd Team All-NJAC catcher in 2011 and 2012; she was also a standout catcher at Governor Livingston High School. Coach Bergman has a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education with a specialty in exercise science, and is a certified personal trainer. She coaches the Epic Tempests 18U team and is a skills trainer for the Branchburg Blaze and CJ Lightning Travel softball teams. She conducts the plyometrics and agility training workouts for the MSU softball team and in class and private sessions at Epic Sports Training and Fitness Academy.

Elena Scarano: A 2014 graduate of Westfield High School, Elena was selected the Star Ledger’s Union County High School Softball Player of the Year in 2013. In 2013 and 2014 she helped pitch the Westfield High School Blue Devils to the Union County Championship. In 2014 Elena was selected Most Valuable Scholastic Softball Player by the Union County Baseball Association. A stellar 2 sport athlete, Elena currently plays volleyball at Division I Loyola University in Baltimore. Rich Vaccaro: A men’s semi-pro fastpitch softball windmill pitcher for more than 25 years, Coach Vaccaro was an Assistant Softball Coach/Pitching Coach and batting practice pitcher for the Montclair State University (MSU) Red Hawks from 2010 through 2013. As the NCAA Division III Eastern Regional Champions in 2012 and 2013, the RedHawks coaching staff was selected as the NCAA Division III Regional Coaching Staff of the Year. His MSU pitching staff’s earned run average (ERA) was the lowest in the country in 2013, including all NCAA Divisions (out of 1,200 teams), with an ERA of 0.90, giving up just 58 runs (46 earned runs) in 51 games! Coach Vaccaro coaches the Epic Tempests 18U travel softball team, he has been a high school softball coach, and he played college baseball at NJIT. • • • • • •

Girls Will Learn/Improve In: Skills: Proper technique, Fundamentals, Fine Points and Strategies Position Play: How to play infield, outfield, catcher and pitcher Hitting: for average, power, and bunting Throwing: 3 overhand methods for distance, speed and accuracy; other types of throws Fielding: Positioning, Grounders (“soft hands”), fly balls. DPs Aggressive base running; stealing, delayed steal, decoy, tagging up, sliding,

Safety: Good practices for softball safety will be followed at all times. What to Bring: Mitt(s), bat(s), batting gloves, helmet, face mask and water bottle; wear sneakers.
