ON THE ROAD AGAIN A two-game road swing begins on Saturday as the Southern Connecticut State University football team travels to Bentley. Game time is set for 1 p.m. ALL-TIME VS. BENTLEY The Falcons lead the all-time series with the Owls by a 12-7 margin. THE LAST MEETING WITH THE FALCONS Thanks to an outstanding team effort in all three phases of the game, the Southern Connecticut State University football team rolled to a 35-13 victory over Bentley on Oct. 29, 2016. • Vochan Fowler rushed for a game-high 114 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns. Paris Crawford totaled a careerhigh 88 yards on 18 carries. • The Owls rushed for 203 yards on the ground and held Bentley just 218 yards of offense. Southern’s defense forced two turnovers and registered three turnovers on downs, while a blocked punt from Justin Potts turned into another score. • Raymond Catapano was 9-of-12 for 149 yards with two touchdowns (one rushing, one passing). Devante Jenkins caught five passes for 93 yards. • Michael Cerisano had a team-high eight tackles, while Vasilios Grigorakos had seven tackles and two sacks. LAST TIME OUT Senior quarterback Raymond Catapano amassed 238 total yards and three touchdowns to lead the Southern Connecticut State University football team to a 28-9 win over Merrimack on Homecoming. • Catapano finished 6-of-11 for 98 yards through the air and had 17 rushes for 140 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, including a 64-yard scamper. • David Spears, Jr. totaled four tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and had a 32-yard interception that he took back for a touchdown. • Eli Parks had 62 yards on 19 carries and added two catches for 27 yards.

•The Owls jumped out to a 14-0 lead and had a 28-3 lead at the break. SPEARS, CATAPANO LAUDED BY NE10 Two members of the Southern Connecticut State University football team – junior David Spears, Jr. and senior Raymond Catapano – have been recognized by the NE10 for their play in the Owls’ 28-9 win over Merrimack on Homecoming. Spears was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week, while Catapano was named to the weekly honor roll. ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT RELEASES NEW LOGO In conjunction with the 2017 Homecoming Weekend festivities, the Southern Connecticut State University athletic department announced a redesign of its Owl logo, effective Oct. 21, 2017. SCSU partnered with Phoenix Design Works of Maplewood, New Jersey for the development of the new athletics logos. CERISANO CLIMBS THE CHARTS Linebacker Michael Cerisano registered his 200th tackle as an Owl in the season opener against Gannon and has 248 coming into the game with the Warriors. He moved into fourth place past Dexter Alexander (245 tackles) in the game against Merimack.

CATAPANO MOVING UP THE RANKS Quarterback Raymond Catapano eclipsed the 3,000 yard career passing mark in the opener against Gannon and the 4,000 yard mark in the game against LIU-Post. He now has 4,193 passing yards on 335-of-613 attempts. • He moved into sole possession of fourth place all-time in completions during the game against New Haven, surpassing former Owls John Esquivel (301), Mike Abate (305) and Chris Roberts (307) during the contest. He’s now seven behind Kevin Lynch for third place in career completions. • Catapano moved into third place in career attempts in the game against Merrimack. Only Kevin Dickinson (1,051) and Steve Armstrong (961) have more in SCSU history. • Catapano moved past Rob Burns for seventh place in career passing yards in the game against Merrimack. He’s now 63 yards behind Esquivel for sixth place. FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING A troika of Owls posted their first collegiate touchdowns in the contest against LIU-Post - Mike Howell, Paris Crawford and Sa’id Boykin. Howell and Crawford both hauled in touchdown receptions, while Boykin had a 12-yard touchdown run. DOCKETT GETTING IT DONE Isaiah Dockett has figured in as one of the Owls’ targets at wide receiver throughout his career, but he posted backto-back career games for the Owls against New Haven and LIU-Post. Against New Haven, his five receptions exceeded his previous single-game best of three, while his 102 receiving yards easily eclipsed his old top mark of 48 yards. Then, in the game against LIU-Post, Dockett hauled in six catches for 111 yards with a career-long reception of 64 yards as well. • In the process, Dockett became the first Owl receiver to post consecutive 100-yard games since Devante Jenkins accomplished the feat against Gannon and Stonehill in the first two games of the 2016 campaign. PARKS WITH A BIG RUN Eli Parks’ 73-yard run against LIU-Post was the first Owls’ run of over 70 yards since 2011, when Rashaad Slowley broke a 75-yard scamper against New Haven in 2011.

GRIESENAUER A CAMPBELL TROPHY SEMIFINALIST Senior tight end Ryne Griesenauer has been named as a semifinalist for the 2017 Campbell Trophy, as announced by the National Football Foundation. • The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Nov. 1, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to New York City for the 60th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 5, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. Live during the event, one member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 28th William V. Campbell Trophy® and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000. A LITTLE BIT OF PARIS Sophomore Paris Crawford has blossomed in a wide receiver role this season after seeing action as a returner and at running back last year. His 24 receptions this season are tops on the club and 14th in the NE10. SPREADING IT AROUND Fourteen different Owls have caught passes through the first seven games. SPEARS SACKS THE JACKETS David Spears, Jr. notched three sacks in the game against American International back on Sept. 22. He’s the first Owl to record at least three sacks in a game since Kayjuan Bynum had 3.5 against Stonehill back in October, 2015. TACKLING THE COMPETITION Jhaaron Wallace leads the Owls with 57 tackles, while Michael Cerisano is second with 55 tackles. John Strezo has 52 stops, while Vasilios Grigorakos has posted 47. • Wallace is second in the NE10 in tackles/game, while Cerisano sits fourth in that category. DOUBLE TROUBLE With their performances against Stonehill, Eli Parks and Raymond Catapano became the first Owls duo to each rush for 100 yards in a game since John Moscatel and Dequane June accomplished the feat against St. Anselm in 2013.
THE CAPTAINS Southern Connecticut State University football coach Tom Godek has announced team captains for the 2017 season. Raymond Catapano, Vochan Fowler, Vasilios Grigorakos, Shaquan Hall, Brandon Pelzer and Isiah Roberts will lead the Owls this fall.
CATAPANO, PARKS HONORED Raymond Catapano was named to the NE10 weekly honor roll for his play against Stonehill, while Eli Parks was tabbed as the SCSU/Chick-fil-A of North Haven Male Athlete of the Week for his efforts. IMPACTING FROM DAY ONE True freshman Zhyaire Fernandes joined an exclusive club with two touchdowns in his Owls’ and collegiate debut. He became the first true SCSU freshman since Greg Douglas in 1998 to find the end zone in his first game as an Owl. Douglas had an 86-yard touchdown run in the opener against Stony Brook that season. • Two other players accomplished the feat more recently in their redshirt freshman seasons. Brandon Toles hauled in an 80-yard touchdown reception in his first game on the field for SCSU in 2004, and Kofi Wilson did the same three years earlier in 2001. NEWCOMERS GETTING A LOOK In total, eight true freshmen saw the field for the Owls in the season opener against Gannon. In addition to Zhyaire Fernandes’ efforts that were noted earlier, Jaron Cogdell rushed nine times for 24 yards and Jose Conde connected on both of his extra points. A.J. Pearl, Sharayad Letellier, Charles Ritchel, Bobby Valeri and Andrew Wille also played for the Owls. CONSISTENT CONDE Freshman Jose Conde has hit on 19 of his 20 extra points, along with both of his two field goal attempts, over the first seven games for the Owls.
IN SEASON OPENERS The Owls are 35-34-1 all-time in season openers. The 2017 season was the 70th in program history. IN THE NE-10 PRESEASON POLL SCSU was selected third in the Northeast-10 preseason poll, as voted on by the league’s coaches. GODEK HONORED AS COACH OF THE YEAR BY GRIDIRON CLUB OF GREATER BOSTON In leading the Owls to a 6-5 record in 2016, along with a third place finish in the NE10 Conference standings. head coach Tom Godek was named the Division II Coach of the Year by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston. FOUR EARN CONFERENCE HONORS Seniors Devante Jenkins and Dylan Vano were both named Second-Team All-Conference, while Joe Buissereth and Matthew Weiss were all named to the All-Rookie Team at the conclusion of the 2016 season. GRIESENAUER COLLECTS COSIDA ACADEMIC ALLDISTRICT LAURELS Tight end Ryne Griesenauer received Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America. Griesenauer played a pivotal role in the Owls’ offense last fall. He posted nine catches for 127 yards and three touchdowns, while also serving as a key blocker as a part of the SCSU rushing attack.

GRIESENAUER REPEATS WITH NOD TO NE10 FOOTBALL ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM For the second year in a row, Ryne Griesenauer was also selected to the NE10 Football All-Academic Team. A WINNING SEASON SECURED The Southern Connecticut State University football team secured a winning 2016 campaign with a 28-25 victory over St. Anselm on Senior Day. 30 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER Southern Connecticut was 4-0 in games in 2016 when scoring 30 points. WELCOME TO THE CLUB The Owls have welcomed 42 newcomers to the roster for this fall through a combination of January, 2017 additions and incoming freshmen and transfers for this fall. CONSISTENCY FROM CATAPANO Senior quarterback Raymond Catapano is coming off a junior year in which he completed 53.7 percent of his passes (102for-190) with 13 touchdowns and only six interceptions. He also rushed for six touchdowns in the 2016 season. FAMILIAR FACES IN THE BACKFIELD In total, the Owls’ top five rushers are back from a season ago. Vochan Fowler led the Owls in rushing attempts (138) and yards (666) last year, while also totaling four rushing touchdowns. Eli Parks added 451 yards on 116 carries and four scores as well. THEY’VE BEEN THERE BEFORE The returning receiving corps is paced by Earl Myers (29 catches, 384 yards in 2016) and Shaquan Hall (23 catches, 313 yards in 2016). THAT’S A LOT OF TACKLES Southern Connecticut boasts the return of eight of its top 10 tacklers from a year ago, including Michael Cerisano, who had a team-best 88 in 2016. In addition, Southern’s sack leader from last year, Jhaaron Wallace (4.5) is also back this fall.

SCHOOL RECORD BOOK SEES SOME SHIFTING The 2016 campaign provided several notable team and individual efforts: Devante Jenkins • Tied for fourth place with former Cleveland Brown Travis Tucker on Southern’s career list with 24 touchdown receptions. He also finished eighth all-time in receptions (115) and ninth in receiving yards (1.720). Michael McNally • Registered the second-best single-season punting yard average (40.6) Raymond Catapano • Recorded the fourth-most pass attempts in a game with 46 at New Haven. Shaquan Hall • Finished the year ranked second all-time in kickoff returns (41) and second in kickoff return yards (803). AMONG THE NE-10 LEADERS • Devante Jenkins was third in the league in touchdowns (9), fifth in total yards (850) and second in yards average (17.3). • Michael Cerisano finished sixth in total tackles with 88. • Mike McNally was third in punting average (40.6). •Raymond Catapano finished fifth in the league with 13 touchdown passes. DID YOU KNOW? Southern Connecticut players hold the Division II records for the most rushing yards gained in a quarter, in a half and in a game. • Vaughn Magee rushed for 187 yards (of his 297) in the fourth quarter of the win over St. Anselm on Sept. 29, 2012. • Jarom Freeman set a new single-game record with 418 yards in a win over Bryant on Nov. 2, 2007, and also set a new record for yards in a half with 251. ON THE ROAD AGAIN A two-game road swing begins on Saturday as the Southern Connecticut State University football team travels to Bentley. Game time is set for 1 p.m. ALL-TIME VS. BENTLEY The Falcons lead the all-time series with the Owls by a 12-7 margin. THE LAST MEETING WITH THE FALCONS Thanks to an outstanding team effort in all three phases of the game, the Southern Connecticut State University football team rolled to a 35-13 victory over Bentley on Oct. 29, 2016. • Vochan Fowler rushed for a game-high 114 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns. Paris Crawford totaled a careerhigh 88 yards on 18 carries. • The Owls rushed for 203 yards on the ground and held Bentley just 218 yards of offense. Southern’s defense forced two turnovers and registered three turnovers on downs, while a blocked punt from Justin Potts turned into another score. • Raymond Catapano was 9-of-12 for 149 yards with two touchdowns (one rushing, one passing). Devante Jenkins caught five passes for 93 yards. • Michael Cerisano had a team-high eight tackles, while Vasilios Grigorakos had seven tackles and two sacks. SPEARS, CATAPANO LAUDED BY NE10 Two members of the Southern Connecticut State University football team – junior David Spears, Jr. and senior Raymond Catapano – have been recognized by the NE10 for their play in the Owls’ 28-9 win over Merrimack on Homecoming. Spears was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week, while Catapano was named to the weekly honor roll. ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT RELEASES NEW LOGO In conjunction with the 2017 Homecoming Weekend festivities, the Southern Connecticut State University athletic department announced a redesign of its Owl logo, effective Oct. 21, 2017. SCSU partnered with Phoenix Design Works of Maplewood, New Jersey for the development of the new athletics logos. CERISANO CLIMBS THE CHARTS Linebacker Michael Cerisano registered his 200th tackle as an Owl in the season opener against Gannon and has 248 coming into the game with the Warriors. CATAPANO MOVING UP THE RANKS Quarterback Raymond Catapano eclipsed the 3,000 yard career passing mark in the opener against Gannon and the 4,000 yard mark in the game against LIU-Post. He now has 4,193 passing yards on 335-of-613 attempts. • He moved into sole possession of fourth place all-time in completions during the game against New Haven, surpassing former Owls John Esquivel (301), Mike Abate (305) and Chris Roberts (307) during the contest. He’s now seven behind Kevin Lynch for third place in career completions. • Catapano moved into third place in career attempts in the game against Merrimack. Only Kevin Dickinson (1,051) and Steve Armstrong (961) have more in SCSU history. • Catapano moved past Rob Burns for seventh place in career passing yards in the game against Merrimack. He’s now 63 yards behind Esquivel for sixth place. FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING A troika of Owls posted their first collegiate touchdowns in the contest against LIU-Post - Mike Howell, Paris Crawford and Sa’id Boykin. Howell and Crawford both hauled in touchdown receptions, while Boykin had a 12-yard touchdown run. DOCKETT GETTING IT DONE Isaiah Dockett has figured in as one of the Owls’ targets at wide receiver throughout his career, but he posted backto-back career games for the Owls against New Haven and LIU-Post. Against New Haven, his five receptions exceeded his previous single-game best of three, while his 102 receiving yards easily eclipsed his old top mark of 48 yards. Then, in the game against LIU-Post, Dockett hauled in six catches for 111 yards with a career-long reception of 64 yards as well. • In the process, Dockett became the first Owl receiver to post consecutive 100-yard games since Devante Jenkins accomplished the feat against Gannon and Stonehill in the first two games of the 2016 campaign. PARKS WITH A BIG RUN Eli Parks’ 73-yard run against LIU-Post was the first Owls’ run of over 70 yards since 2011, when Rashaad Slowley broke a 75-yard scamper against New Haven in 2011.

GRIESENAUER A CAMPBELL TROPHY SEMIFINALIST Senior tight end Ryne Griesenauer has been named as a semifinalist for the 2017 Campbell Trophy, as announced by the National Football Foundation. • The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Nov. 1, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to New York City for the 60th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 5, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. Live during the event, one member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 28th William V. Campbell Trophy® and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000. A LITTLE BIT OF PARIS Sophomore Paris Crawford has blossomed in a wide receiver role this season after seeing action as a returner and at running back last year. His 24 receptions this season are tops on the club and 14th in the NE10. SPREADING IT AROUND Fourteen different Owls have caught passes through the first seven games. SPEARS SACKS THE JACKETS David Spears, Jr. notched three sacks in the game against American International back on Sept. 22. He’s the first Owl to record at least three sacks in a game since Kayjuan Bynum had 3.5 against Stonehill back in October, 2015. TACKLING THE COMPETITION Jhaaron Wallace leads the Owls with 57 tackles, while Michael Cerisano is second with 55 tackles. John Strezo has 52 stops, while Vasilios Grigorakos has posted 47. • Wallace is second in the NE10 in tackles/game, while Cerisano sits fourth in that category. CATAPANO, PARKS HONORED Raymond Catapano was named to the NE10 weekly honor roll for his play against Stonehill, while Eli Parks was tabbed as the SCSU/Chick-fil-A of North Haven Male Athlete of the Week for his efforts. IMPACTING FROM DAY ONE True freshman Zhyaire Fernandes joined an exclusive club with two touchdowns in his Owls’ and collegiate debut. He became the first true SCSU freshman since Greg Douglas in 1998 to find the end zone in his first game as an Owl. Douglas had an 86-yard touchdown run in the opener against Stony Brook that season. • Two other players accomplished the feat more recently in their redshirt freshman seasons. Brandon Toles hauled in an 80-yard touchdown reception in his first game on the field for SCSU in 2004, and Kofi Wilson did the same three years earlier in 2001. NEWCOMERS GETTING A LOOK In total, eight true freshmen saw the field for the Owls in the season opener against Gannon. In addition to Zhyaire Fernandes’ efforts that were noted earlier, Jaron Cogdell rushed nine times for 24 yards and Jose Conde connected on both of his extra points. A.J. Pearl, Sharayad Letellier, Charles Ritchel, Bobby Valeri and Andrew Wille also played for the Owls. CONSISTENT CONDE Freshman Jose Conde has hit on 19 of his 20 extra points, along with both of his two field goal attempts, over the first seven games for the Owls.
IN SEASON OPENERS The Owls are 35-34-1 all-time in season openers. The 2017 season was the 70th in program history. IN THE NE-10 PRESEASON POLL SCSU was selected third in the Northeast-10 preseason poll, as voted on by the league’s coaches. GODEK HONORED AS COACH OF THE YEAR BY GRIDIRON CLUB OF GREATER BOSTON In leading the Owls to a 6-5 record in 2016, along with a third place finish in the NE10 Conference standings. head coach Tom Godek was named the Division II Coach of the Year by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston. FOUR EARN CONFERENCE HONORS Seniors Devante Jenkins and Dylan Vano were both named Second-Team All-Conference, while Joe Buissereth and Matthew Weiss were all named to the All-Rookie Team at the conclusion of the 2016 season. GRIESENAUER COLLECTS COSIDA ACADEMIC ALLDISTRICT LAURELS Tight end Ryne Griesenauer received Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America. Griesenauer played a pivotal role in the Owls’ offense last fall. He posted nine catches for 127 yards and three touchdowns, while also serving as a key blocker as a part of the SCSU rushing attack.

GRIESENAUER REPEATS WITH NOD TO NE10 FOOTBALL ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM For the second year in a row, Ryne Griesenauer was also selected to the NE10 Football All-Academic Team. A WINNING SEASON SECURED The Southern Connecticut State University football team secured a winning 2016 campaign with a 28-25 victory over St. Anselm on Senior Day. 30 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER Southern Connecticut was 4-0 in games in 2016 when scoring 30 points. WELCOME TO THE CLUB The Owls have welcomed 42 newcomers to the roster for this fall through a combination of January, 2017 additions and incoming freshmen and transfers for this fall. CONSISTENCY FROM CATAPANO Senior quarterback Raymond Catapano is coming off a junior year in which he completed 53.7 percent of his passes (102for-190) with 13 touchdowns and only six interceptions. He also rushed for six touchdowns in the 2016 season. FAMILIAR FACES IN THE BACKFIELD In total, the Owls’ top five rushers are back from a season ago. Vochan Fowler led the Owls in rushing attempts (138) and yards (666) last year, while also totaling four rushing touchdowns. Eli Parks added 451 yards on 116 carries and four scores as well. THEY’VE BEEN THERE BEFORE The returning receiving corps is paced by Earl Myers (29 catches, 384 yards in 2016) and Shaquan Hall (23 catches, 313 yards in 2016). THAT’S A LOT OF TACKLES Southern Connecticut boasts the return of eight of its top 10 tacklers from a year ago, including Michael Cerisano, who had a team-best 88 in 2016.
