2017 Spring Season FAQ’s www.chesapeakelittleleague.org

Thank you for registering to play with Chesapeake Little League this season. You’re probably wondering…what’s next? Below is a list of frequently asked questions & answers to help you prepare for the upcoming season: 1. When will I know what team my player is on? All players will be placed on teams the second week in March. Coaches will receive their rosters via email on March 9th. Players will then be contacted by their coach via phone call, text, or email. Practices are scheduled to begin March 11th. 2. What if I don’t receive a call from my coach by Friday, March 10th? In the rare occasion this happens, please feel free to contact the Vice President of your division. Visit the Chesapeake Little League website at www.chesapeakelittleleague.org, click the “Board/Chairs” menu to locate your Division VP. 3. Is the league holding evaluations? Yes. All Minor/Major baseball and softball players must attend the mandatory evaluation on March 4th at the Crestwood Middle School fields. The times are divided as followed: Baseball Ages 9 – 12, 2PM - 5PM

Softball Ages 7 – 12, TBD

If your baseball player is an 8 year old in the Farm division (with previous experience) and would like to try out for the Minors division, you must attend the Baseball evaluation. This is not a guarantee that your child will move divisions, but a chance for the coaches to assess his level of skill. Currently, Junior & Senior players do not have to attend an evaluation; however, if registration numbers require an evaluation, parents will be notified accordingly. The makeup date for weather/missed evaluations will be March 5th at Crestwood at 2PM. If you cannot make the original date for reasons other than weather, you must contact your Division VP ahead of the evaluation date to ensure your child is not left out of the draft. All players in the Minor/Major division must go through an evaluation to be drafted. 4. When do games begin? Opening Day has not been determined by our District at this time due to when Spring Break ends. We will send out notification of Opening Day as soon as a decision has been made. 5. How often will my player practice? From March 11th – approximately April 22nd, your team will practice more often until games start. Your coach will inform you of your exact practice schedule. A typical weekly schedule follows: Age Group T-Ball Farm Minor – Senior

Preseason 2 practices 2 practices 3 practices

In-season 1 practice, 1 game (Sat only) 1 practice, 1 or 2 games 1 or 2 practices, 2 games

6. Where will we practice? Coaches choose their practice locations. Chesapeake Little League has fields in the following locations; please see our website for directions: Cascade Park Crestwood Middle School Civitan Acres Portlock Elementary 7. Will there be umpires at the games? We are the only Little League in District 6 to use volunteer umpires for our Minor/Major divisions. Junior and Senior divisions will be umpired by paid umpires. If you are interested in volunteering as an umpire, please contact CJ Zombar at [email protected]. Umpires who work at least 8 full games in a season are eligible for one child’s registration to be refunded. 8. When will my player receive their uniform? Uniforms should be distributed to each team by the beginning of April. Most team uniforms are ordered in standard sizes, and your size input thru registration helps us to ensure we have coverage. If a special need should arise, rest assured we have a fabulous uniform manager that will assist in meeting your needs. As a reminder, players will receive the following uniform items this season: T-Ball & Farm: Hat & Shirt Minor/Major/Junior/Senior BB: Hat, Shirt, Pants, and Socks Minor/Major/Senior SB: Visor, Shirt, and Socks 9. Is the league looking for volunteers? Always! Managers, assistant coaches, team parents, scorekeepers, and umpires are always needed. If you are interested in obtaining a volunteer position, please fill out a volunteer application (found in the handout section on our website), scan the application, along with a copy of a picture ID, to our Safety Officer, Cintia Cruz, at [email protected] 10. When does the season end? Closing Day for the 2015 season is June 10th for most of our league. Players age 9 and above may try out for the All-Star team in their age group. Stay tuned for more information. 11. How will I know if games are canceled? Rain delays and cancelations are posted on our Facebook page and a message is placed on the league hotline at 757-558-8751. Please find and like us on Facebook if you haven’t done so already in order to receive all of this pertinent information. 12. Are there separate rules for each division?
