2017 SR-1 PROJECT INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW: The SR-1 Project is designing and building a raceplane to set absolute speed records in its weight class (see sr1.weebly.com and facebook.com/TheSR1Project). The SR-1 Project is currently seeking 1-2 undergraduates for a summer internship in our Santa Paula, CA shop to fabricate and test composite structures on our new 50kN universal testing machine. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates to gain hands-on experience fabricating and testing aerospace composites. In addition, candidates will have the opportunity to assist in fabricating components for the SR-1 airplane itself. RESPONSIBILITIES: Candidates will be responsible for fabricating composite panels, coupons and other assemblies for tensile, compressive, shear and flexural testing. They will then collate the data into the SR-1 Project’s Rapid Prototyping/Experimental Design Public Database. Additionally, candidates may be responsible for fabricating/machining specialized fixtures for the test machine. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Candidates should have completed at least their 2nd year in an undergraduate engineering degree. PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE -

Composites fabrication Materials testing experience Proficiency in CAD/CAM, preferably Solidworks GPA 3.0 or higher

Candidates should be able to work at least 20 hours/week (40 preferred) for at least 10 weeks during the summer of 2017. Start/end dates are flexible, as is the weekly schedule. Applicants should have means of transportation if commuting; transportation costs will be reimbursed. For non-local interns, please indicate in application if housing is necessary. Free local housing may be available. Internship is located at Santa Paula Airport, Santa Paula CA. No ITAR requirements. Intern(s) will be selected on the basis of merit, competence and qualifications without regard to race, gender, etc. Candidates should send a resume (1 page or less) and letter of interest (1 page or less) by April 15, 2017.
