Zone 1, Discover, Learn and Play Fall (September to November) Winter (January to March) Spring (April to June) Black, EDP Futures; Green & White, MNJYSA Weekends, primarily Sundays depending on season and league with some makeup games played on Saturdays Duck Pond Park, Conover Park or Plainsboro Community Park Boys, Monday and Wednesday Girls, Tuesday and Thursday 6 – 7:30pm

Mental Skills (General and Training & Competing)

Emotional Skills (General Characteristics and Psychosocial)

Promote mental health through physical activity. Introduce relaxation exercises, introduce self-talks and verbal cues, concentration exercises, achieve success and receive positive reinforcement, introduce mental preparation, goal-setting sheets, set process and outcome goals, introduce imagery: ability to imagine self playing soccer, basic ability to focus on coaches instructions, introduce basic activation and relaxation exercises, introduce understanding of mental training aspects (e.g. refocusing) Begin to challenge players with problem-solving situations, introduce strategy and tactics (given the skills have been learned), teach more advanced techniques founded upon basics they already possess, continue to use positive reinforcement with players, start to learn to deal with the pressures and desire to perform, getting players more involved in leadership roles, understanding how to use assets to outweigh any shortcomings, learn the importance of teamwork and individual roles and responsibilities, a positive yet demanding environment with clear expectations to meet

Lifestyle Skills

Involvement in multiple sports, introduce hydration and nutrition, introduce cultural and lifestyle habits, educate parents about lifestyle consideration for players, develop teamwork and interaction skills, introduce importance of discipline and structure (e.g. training), develop understanding of the relationship between effort and outcome
