Essay Topic: The Oil and Gas industry has an increasing demand for both data acquisition from the field and connectivity for the mobile field workforce. Providing for these needs requires substantial communications infrastructure. Some companies rely on private networks, others on public systems, and many use a combination of the two. Communications infrastructure -including towers -- plays a critical role in deploying more rural parts of these networks. What role do you think federal, state and local governments play in deploying communications infrastructure and, more importantly, what role should these various governmental entities play? Our nation has been hit with several natural (Hurricanes) and man-made disasters (Deepwater Horizon) in recent years; what roles do the FCC and FAA play in the aftermath of a disaster? How does this differ from how the agencies act outside of these extreme events? Could these agencies do more during and immediately after a disaster? If so, what more could be done?
