John MacArthur pointed out, “in Matthew 5 you remember that the Bible says there, rejoice when you’re persecuted. But if you go to Matthew 10:23, it says flee persecution. That’s a paradox. Now what are we supposed to do, stand there and rejoice or run? There’s a paradox there. There’s a sense in which we run from persecution, but when it catches us we can know joy in the midst of it.”
