24 Fulwoods Drive Leadenhall Milton Keynes MK6 5LB England 7 January 1993 Mr P. M. Whitlock 3804 Kilarney Street Port Coquitlam B.C. V38 3G6 Canada Dear Mr Whitlock, The Guild of One Name Studies have given me your name in connection with the name Whitlock. I would be interested to know more about your Whitlock One Name Study. My maternal grandmother I is Violet Edith Moseley (nee Whitlock) who was born on January 31st 1896 III Woburn Sands on the Bedfordshire/Buckinghamshire border. On September 11th 1926 in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, she married George Moseley (b. 29.7.75 Weston Favell, Northamptonshire, d. 6.1.62 Northampton) and they produced five daughters. She is the eldest of seven children - Frederick Charles (son Peter lives Newport Pagnell), Doris Ada (married Dunbabin), Winifred May (married Turner), George (the YOlUlgest, still alive, son Duncan, both live Stony Stratford, Buckinghamshire), Alfred Ernest (still alive, lives Stony Stratford) and Elsie. Further information about her siblings can be provided if required. Her father was George Ephraim Whitlock, born on the 23rd December 1872t-at Aspl~W_ Guise on the Beds/Bucks border, who married Kate Sherwood (b. 16.12.76 Eversholt, d. 1.12.41 Newport Pagnell) at Eversholt, Bedfordshire, on October 1st 1895 and died 3rd January 1944 at Newport Pagnell. His father, Frederic Witlock (note spelling - this is as registered) was born at St Mary Hoo, Kent on August 18th 1850~ Grandma says he was born in a caravan while the family was in Kent hop picking. This is probably close to the truth but not the truth as August is a little early for hop picking but they could have been fruit picking as his father was reputedly the village chimney sweep and may have taken his family to Kent for work during the summer months. We also have reason to think that Frederic's mother (Darney or Darnity Draper, born Gloucestershire) had been a traveller and so the caravan sounds plausible. Frederic married Esther_~~'urett (b. 2.6.52 Stoke Goldington, Buckinghamshire) on Christmas Day 1871 at Woburn Sands. Frederic's father, Richard Ephraim Whitelock, the chimney sweep, was baptised on April 27th 1828 at Wavendon, Buckinghamshire. We have as yet been tillable to find the marriage of Richard and Darnity. Richard Ephraim was illegitimate, his mother being Mary Ann Whitelock who was baptised at Wavendon on September 29th 1801. Mary Ann's parents were Thomas Whitluck (baptised 17th January 1762 at Wavendon and buried 27th October 1836, again at Wavendon) and Sarah Lester. They married at Newport Pagnell en August 7th 1792. Sarah was

buried at Wavendon on April 17th 1850. We think Thomas' parents were Isaac Whitlark, a Quaker, of Bow Brickhill (buried 18.5.1790 at Wavendon) and Mary Hatwood (buried 6.11.1803 at Wavendon) who married at Wavendon on April 15th 1754. I hope the above information is of interest. I have a photograph of Elsie Whitlock and one of Frederic and Esther Witlock if collecting photographs is part of the Whitlock study. My father hcts a number of other Whitlock references from Parish Registers etc that we could provide if these would be useful. We would be interested to know the extent of your collection of data and any other information you can provide. Yours Sincerely,

Dianne Sutton
