25th Annual Chicago River Day

25th Annual Chicago River Day Saturday, May 13, 2017 9 a.m.— 12 noon Twenty-five years ago, Friends of the Chicago River launched “Chicago River Rescue Day” with a small group of feisty river advocates. This small group “rescued” the river by pulling old shopping carts, mattresses, and plastic bags from its banks. Little did they know that their efforts would blossom into Chicago River Day, hosting over 2,500 volunteers at 65 sites along the river and throughout the metropolitan area each year. We invite you to sponsor our 25th annual Chicago River Day and help us make a direct impact on the health of the river. Over the last two decades, we have seen phenomenal improvements along the Chicago River system and we hope to continue these successes through your generous support. On Chicago River Day, volunteers work side-by-side, along the river’s edge or in boats, to collect garbage and micro garbage, remove invasive vegetation, spruce up river-edge trails, plant native seedlings, and much more.
