27th June 2017 Winyates News What a huge success Sports’ Day was last week, we’d like to thank the children, parents/carers and staff for supporting this –well done everyone! Our ‘Pop Up’ author visits have begun this week and the children have absolutely loved meeting them. This has been a real inspiration for the children to read and write, with many children now wanting to write their own books and become an author themselves! Our ‘move up’ transition day will be next Thursday, where the children will spend the day in their new classes, with their new teachers. A letter will follow next week with details of year group teachers and teaching assistants for next year. I’d like to with our Year 6s the best of luck on their transition days to secondary school next year –we are very proud of you and are confident that you will make excellent secondary students. Attendance and Punctuality Well done to all the classes last week. Class attendance for last week was: Reception 90.40% Year 1 90.83% Year 2 95.25% Year 3 96.18% Year 4 95.98% Year 5 95.31% Year 6 95.24% School overall 94.31% Our overall Class winner for the whole year is currently Year 4, who are heading for a lovely treat if they can hold off the competition! Hot Chocolate Club We had a wonderful hot chocolate club this week. We sat around the big table enjoying the drink and talking at length. Our conversations were around pets and trying to decide what they might like to eat. We also talked about Grandparents and the roles they play in our lives! I cant wait to do my next one!! Mrs Firth Executive Headteacher Year 5 The Eagles Eagles class were excited yesterday when Jamie Thomson, author of the Dark Lord series and others, visited our class. He did a presentation and answered many questions before signing our class Dark Lord books, as well as personal autographs for us all! His visit has inspired many of us to create our own stories and we shall be using some of Jamie’s ideas to plan these from his workshop notes that he left with us. Thank you parents for attending! We are now looking forward to our Scholastic Book Fair, which starts on Wednesday 28th June until Wednesday 5th July from 3.15pm to 4.00pm (held in either our main hall or KS2 corridor). We hope you will come along and support us.
