Dear Parents and Carers

Lunches Sam has re-introduced the Wooden Spoon Award – this is awarded to the child who has had the best manners throughout the week. If your child wins the spoon, they will bring it home and we would appreciate it if you could help them to decorate it – turn it into something or someone, as these are displayed around the serving hatch. So far our winners have been Beth McFetrich, Aysha Le and Andrew Gair – well done everyone. Sam is also going to be holding the “lucky tray” events again – some trays will have stickers put on the bottom of them – if your child finds one, they will be awarded a prize.

Our lunches are proving very popular with the children - Sam works very hard with all children and staff to ensure that the meals are varied and tasty. In September the Government propose to extend the free school meals to Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children. Nursery and Year 3 and 4 children will still pay for their lunches. We will be contacting parents after the Easter holiday to see if they are planning to take up this offer.

Date for the diary - Mothers Day Lunches Mums are invited into school to join their child for a school lunch. Our meals are freshly cooked and follow the healthy schools programme. If you wish to attend please complete the reply slip at the end of the newsletter (if your child normally has packed lunch, they will need to have a school lunch along with mum). Tuesday 25th March – Nursery and Reception children Wednesday 26th March – Swifts children Thursday 27th March – Owls children

Make, Bake, Grow & Show Please remember if you are interested in helping in any way, either on the day of the show or in the planning, there is a meeting on 17th February, 7pm, at the Ridley Arms – all welcome.

Residential We are in the early stages of planning a residential experience for the Owls children. After the success of our Gibside visit last year we are looking to return there, but for 2 sleeps !! The grounds are so extensive that we feel there is still a lot to do and see … plus the food is good and the journey isn’t too far. To help us with this please can you indicate on the slip at the bottom of the page whether you would be interested in your child participating in the visit.

Family Learning – Thursday mornings, 9-11am Please remember the coffee and chat session on Thursday mornings – all welcome. Come and find out some of the things your child learns in English lessons.

Volunteers required If anyone has a spare hour or so, or know of someone, we are in need of volunteers; perhaps to help in the kitchen as a dinner nanny, helping in the classrooms, or odd jobs around the grounds. Please contact Angela or myself.

PE The Government has allocated our school £8000 plus £5 per primary aged child for the delivery of high quality PE. Last term the children benefitted from : 

Cricket with James

Dance with Suzie

Multi-skills with Adam

This term so far they have participated in : 

Yoga with Debbie
