28th November 2017 Winyates News Grafham Water made our Year 5 and 6 classes seem very quiet! I know all the children who went away had a wonderful time (I hope you have enjoyed looking at the photographs on the website). The children in school were also very busy and very creative! Year six have produced some amazing looking art work. In my regular visits around the school, I saw some superb work going on in the Year 5 classroom: they were all challenging themselves to do amazing writing. Year 2 also worked hard thinking about kindness and what makes a good friend: they were really thoughtful. Year 4 have some interesting volcanos in their classroom and I know they are keen for the next part of the science experiment to see what happens next. Mr CarsonDoughty has also been busy praising our reception class on their PE skills! Hot Chocolate Club Last week’s club were very excited to be chosen for a treat to celebrate their hard work.

when we should use a capital letter and full stop. They have also written some great questions for characters and have begun to write using time conjunctions (first, next, then, finally). This coming week we are working towards re-telling our story ‘Rex Tries to Juggle’ using all the things we have learnt. In maths, Year 1 are getting really good at using different resources to add and subtract. Last week, the Bears went on an ‘autumn hunt’ to find things to make an autumnal picture with. We talked about what other materials could represent e.g red for fire, brown for tree trunks, black for the dark sky. Then, they wrote about autumn using excellent adjectives!

Reception The Busy Bees Last week we really enjoyed our visit from the Clean Gang. We learnt lots about keeping ourselves healthy. We learnt some songs and got to meet lots of the Clean Gang characters, such as Tommy Toothbrush, Flossy Flannel and Harry Hairbrush. Some of us even got to dress up as the characters. This week we are reading the story ‘Pizza for Pirates’. In the story George goes on an adventure and packs all his essentials in his bag to take with him, including his favourite food … Pizza! He set us a challenge yesterday to investigate the best type of Pizza. We had a vote and Ham and Pineapple was the least popular with 5 votes and the Cheese and Tomato pizza was the most popular with 12. We will let George know our verdict. In number time we continue to think about numbers that are 1 more and 1 less and are using the story Ten Little Pirates to help us with our learning. area into a Pizza Parlour. We enjoyed setting it up and look forward to taking on different roles such as waiter, chef and delivery driver. Outside this week we are going to be turning the area in to a pirate ship, painting our own pirate flag on a big bed sheet. Look out for it when you come in to school. Last week we won the kit league for the 3rd week running as all children had PE kit in school. This week unfortunately some children have not got their PE kits in school, so it looks like a different class will be champions. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school every day especially on a Monday and Tuesday. If they do Multi-skills club, they also need it in school on a Thursday. Lots of jumpers and cardigans are still being misplaced as they are not named. It is extremely hard to reunite unnamed items of clothing in school as we all wear the same if not similar items of clothing. Please name all school clothing and PE kit!
