In maths the children are practicing their arithmetic skills and strategies and practicing some shape and statistics work, in readiness for our KS1 SATs tests which will be completed by the end of May. Children should not feel anxious about these tests as they are used to help form teacher judgements in year 2 and are done in small groups with an adult, in a way the children are familiar with working. Can I ask that children ensure they read and take accelerated quizzes as much as possible in a week – they simply need to let an adult know they are ready for a test when they have read at home. Mrs C Lomas Using the reading quizzes (when School Leader the book has them) is an excellent way of practicing reading skills and Year 2 The Piglets ensuring good understanding. The children are doing really well with Year 2 are very busy planning and their reading, so keep up the writing Rastamouse stories. We excellent work! are trying out new ways of planning our writing, including breaking it

Reception The Elephants This week the Elephants are reading ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ and thinking about the characters in the story. We will be thinking about whether they are good or bad characters and coming up with other descriptive words to describe what they look like. In the outdoor area we will be using the crates and blocks to build bridges to help us act out the story with our friends. We will be designing our own trolls and painting pictures of them. In literacy we will rewrite the story in our own words thinking about key phrases in the story such as “who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?”. Some of the children have been making their own puppets and pictures to help them retell the story already. IN number time we are thinking about distance this week and using lan-
guage such as furthest, far away, nearest and near when playing games. This week our treasure seeker was Sadiqa and Hope and Lucas received nominations in assembly for hard work.
Fiddle Toys Fiddle toys must not be brought in from home without prior agreement from the SENCo Miss Steer, due to some going missing.
