Message from the President Wow, it’s hard to believe that we are halfway through 2012. I hope that you had the opportunity to attend at least one of our Chapter events during the first half of this year. We had a fantastic networking event at Citrus in downtown Orlando on June 28, and more great meetings planned for the rest of the year. Stay tuned to the newsletter and our website http://centralflorida.rims.org for additional information. I would like to give a big thank you to Shannon Fetherman for putting together another successful golf tournament. But of course we couldn’t have done it without our wonderful sponsors and participants. The proceeds from this event will provide educational opportunities for local students and risk managers. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to represent our chapter at the RIMS 2012 Annual Conference and Exhibition in Philadelphia. The conference was very well attended and included a wide variety of educational sessions and networking events. Thank you to Barry Dillard, CFC Director of External Affairs, for representing our chapter at the RIMS on the Hill event held earlier this month. As you can see our board stays very busy throughout the year and I feel so blessed to work with such a committed group of individuals. There’s always room for more so please consider putting your talents to work serving our chapter.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
submitted by Barry Dillard
During the week of June 3rd, I attended the RIMS on the Hill Legislative Conference (ROTH) in Washington, DC. Day one of ROTH provided us with updates on the issues we would be discussing during our hill visits: ∙ Strengthening Medicare and Repaying Taxpayers Act of 2011 (SMART Act) ∙ National Flood Insurance Reform and Reauthorization ∙ Federal Insurance Office role
On Tuesday, as part of the Florida delegation, I met with the Legislative Directors for Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. Bill Nelson, and Rep. Bill Posey. My role in the meetings was to discuss the impact of Medicare Secondary Payer program and to ask for co‐sponsorship of the SMART Act. Overall the meetings went very well and I have since followed up with all the Legislative Directors via email to ensure that our issues remain front of mind. We are pleased that Congress has just approved a 5‐year extension to the National Flood Insurance Program, which covers 5.6 million people.
