3rd Annual Kiwanis Bell Ringer 5K Sponsorship Request Event Date: October 31, 2015 – 9:00 AM Race start Location: Rotary Park Pavilion Park, 925 Sharon Valley Road, Newark, Ohio Co‐Sponsored by Licking County Kiwanis clubs and Licking/Delaware Key Clubs
This race is a community event to support Kiwanis and Salvation Army Newark Corps Christmas projects. Proceeds support Kiwanis and projects for children in our community, including the Salvation Army! 50% of the race proceeds will be directed to the Salvation Army Newark, OH Corps Christmas Program and the race helps Kick Off the Salvation Army Toy Drive with help of The Salvation Army Chapel Brass. The Third Annual Kiwanis Bell Ringer 5K, formerly called the Licking County Kiwanis 5K is now a welcomed community event for competitive and non‐competitive runners/walkers of all ages. Co‐sponsored by local Key Clubs, the race is well supported and attended by many student participants and volunteers, as well as business sponsors, who each receive free entry forms (see below). This popular course (LICCO) is safe and scenic, centrally located Rotary Pavilion Park near OSU‐Newark campus. Our three Licking County Kiwanis Clubs, Granville, Newark and Heath Moundbuilders, join forces to host this race each year. Many age group awards, professional timing, quality race shirts and low entry fees are some of the highlights. Many participants are friends and members of Kiwanis. We are proud of the service of our Kiwanis clubs of Licking County, who support many children’s causes and services including Camp O’Bannon, New Beginnings Shelter, The Licking County Food Pantry, athletic programs, and the Salvation Army. Proceeds of the race will support the Salvation Army Newark, OH Corps Christmas programs and our local Kiwanis projects including efforts to Eliminate Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus world‐wide, and we are 90% to our goal! The Salvation Army Newark, OH Corps Christmas programs support Licking County families. In 2014, Salvation Army volunteers and donors made a better Christmas for over 1200 families with over 4000 children; and provided 630 boxes of food. Volunteers who work directly with the program see and appreciate the immensity of the effort. Kiwanis and Key Clubs world‐wide are saving lives by eliminating tetanus, which was responsible for 60,000 newborn deaths each year! We have eliminated tetanus in 35 countries and steady progress is happening in the remaining 25 countries. In July 2015, we have raised $100M of our $110M goal. To help kick off the race and Salvation Army Toy Drive, the 2015 North American Brass Band Champions award winning Chapel Brass, directed by Dr. Keith Wilkinson, will be on hand to play! In 2008, Dr. Wilkinson was presented the God and Country Music Award for his outstanding contributions to brass banding in USA, Britain and Europe. The Chapel Brass is a ministry of The Salvation Army at Worthington Woods. Kiwanis looks forward to honoring our Salvation Army bell ringers!
