Description of Property The Elk Meadow Ranch is a beautiful foothills-mountain and rangeland property situated at the eastern base of Carter Mountain. Some of the deeded land on the far western side of the property, is contiguous to the Shoshone National Forest. The remaining three boundary lines of the ranch are bordered by two large working ranches. The topography, ranging in elevations from 7,300’ to 8,600’, consists of rolling open grasslands/sagebrush along the upper benches above the creek drainages and mountain terrain with scenic tree-covered hillsides and gushing mountain streams. Thick stands of spruce, aspen and cottonwood paint the landscape along the Meeteetse Creek drainage with their spectacular year-around beauty. Willows flourish along the miles of creek banks. Large grassy meadows, heavy stands of timber, rugged terrain and miles of creek bottoms provide excellent wildlife habitat throughout the entire ranch. Elk, mule deer, white-tailed deer, antelope and moose thrive on the property. Approximately 3½ miles of the year-around Meeteetse Creek flow through deeded, BLM and State lands on the northern portion of the ranch. Middle Creek traverses through the southern portion of the deeded land for about 2½ miles. The drainage along Meeteetse Creek is extremely scenic and native cutthroat trout fishing is excellent. The owner has historically utilized the ranch for grazing cattle and horses during the summer and early fall months. Big game hunting has been limited over the years. The U.S. Forest Service Meeteetse Cattle & Horse Allotment in the Shoshone National Forest, which is contiguous to the ranch, allows grazing of 123 head of yearling cattle from July 1st through September 30th. The annual precipitation for the area ranges from 20” to 24”, according to the NRCS 30-year average. Electrical power is available and is provided to the ranch by Rocky Mountain Power Co.
A small cabin (1,200 sq. ft.)
has been used as a cow camp as well as a base camp during hunting season.
The cabin is located near Meeteetse Creek, which offers excellent fishing for native cutthroat trout.
Elk Meadow Ranch offers a multitude of recreational amenities and activities including wildlife watching, magnificent mountain views, quality elk, deer and antelope hunting, fishing on miles of creeks and streams, camping, hiking, and horseback riding — all in the seclusion and solitude of this very scenic and private property.
Large grassy meadows, heavy stands of timber, rugged terrain and miles of creek bottoms provide outstanding habitats for many species of wildlife.
Whether horseback riding or hiking, one can experience the magnificent splendor of nature around every corner, over every knoll, in every grove of trees, in every meadow blanketed with spectacular mountain flowers and in the crystal clear water that cascades down mountain streams … serenity in its grandeur.
