“At Cushing we take athletics seriously. You can play any sport, and whatever you choose to do, you’ll have support to compete at the highest level. I always strive to do my best, but being captain of my teams in field hockey and ice hockey offered a new challenge — to look out for my teammates first. Being part of a team has made me grow so much as a person. ”

BECOMING A LEADER Cushing’s Athletic Leadership Program, launched in 2010, challenges studentathletes who wish to take their drive beyond the courts and playing fields to fully develop their leadership potential. The program offers workshops and speakers on topics such as resilience and healthy decision-making, recruiting and college play, and developing a winner’s brain. Guest speakers, off-campus opportunities to meet alumni athletes and athletic leaders, and athletic outreach events in the community help round out this unique experiential opportunity.
