THE WRANGLERS Kelly Houston, Cindy Valentine, Curt Wegener, Mindy Wegener, Chuck Swing, Doug Brimm, Gloria Brimm, Michelle Lewis, Joanna Rice, Greg Brimm, Judie Brimm, Jack Hubbard, Mike Menath, Tanna Havlick The dinner crowd of golfers and volunteers at the 3rd Annual Golf Tournament for Kids & Horses watched with rapt attention as a 6-year-old boy at the microphone clearly said “Hi” and “Thank you” with minimal prompting by his dad. The child is RB Bruce who has been a student at Kids & Horses for several months and his dad is Rob Bruce, a PGA Golf pro on the staff of the Championship Course in Incline Village, NV. RB’s story begins, at age two and a half, when developmental delays were detected. With doctor’s advice, RB began a series of therapies. At age 4, his vocabulary was limited to 25 to 35 words. Now, at age 6, it is a little over 100 and growing. During therapy, the horse works the core muscles and gives sensory input. While on his therapy horse, RB and his team play games and he is required to recognize numbers, letters and shapes as well as use his words to guide the horse. “Whoa” and “Walk On” are now part of his vocabulary. Rob said, “In the five weeks he has been riding, I have seen exponential improvement in his articulation and muscle strength.” Rob cited the loving, caring and compassionate staff that makes Kids & Horses so special. The proceeds from the Golf Tournament will be dedicated to the Scholarship Fund. Doug Brimm, CEO, declares, “With our newly upgraded facility and the addition of two licensed therapists, we stand ready to double our enrollment by mid-2017.” Kids & Horses, Inc. provides adaptive riding lessons, physical therapy and occupational therapy.
