[email protected] Games will be governed by the current rules of the NFHS, with the following points of emphasis and modifications:
Rules that have been updated/added from 2016‐2017 are highlighted in yellow.
NUMBER OF PLAYERS Teams will play 3v3. At least two players are required to avoid a forfeit. CO‐REC MODIFICATION: Teams will play 3v3 with a minimum of 2 players, but only with any of the following gender combinations: 2 men/1 woman 1 man/2 women 1 man/1 woman Forfeit Policy A game is considered a forfeit when at least one team fails to have the minimum number to play at FIVE minutes after the scheduled game time. This is a “grace period” that allows teams to not forfeit when just running a tad bit behind, but will give teams who show up on time a small score advantage at the start of the game. If a team does not have the minimum players at game time, but is able to field enough players before five minutes, the game will start with the non‐offending team receiving a set number of points/goals (see below). Games will always start at the beginning regardless of number of minutes allowed for a team to field the minimum number of players. Sport Penalty Score Awarded to Non‐Offending Team 3v3 Soccer 2‐0 Please review the Guide To Procedures for the full explanation of this policy.
PLAYER ELIGIBILITY Each individual may play for only ONE Open team and ONE Co‐Rec team. Any member of the team appearing on any intercollegiate Varsity Soccer rosters for the 2015‐2016 season will not eligible to play intramural soccer during the 2016‐2017 academic year. Teams may have a max of ONE club soccer player on their team. Please refer to the Varsity Athlete & Club Sports Eligibility sections in the Guide to Procedures to ensure your team is eligible.
EQUIPMENT Jerseys/T‐Shirts All members of a team must wear jerseys/t‐shirts of the same color with permanent numbers. Goalkeepers need to wear a shirt/jersey with contrasting colors from teammates and opponents that easily distinguishes them. If an Intramural Sports pinnie is worn, a shirt must be worn underneath. Pinnies with numbers may be checked out by a member of your team upon checking in. We will keep your Pioneer ID Card until all pinnies are returned. Should a pinnie not be returned or damage beyond normal wear and tear occurs, the individual responsible for the team set of pinnies will be ejected and suspended from all IMs until the replacement cost is paid via IMLeagues. Dress 1
Denim or shorts/pants with metal rivets may not be worn during any Intramural Sports competition. Shin guards are strongly recommended, but not required. If shin guards are worn, they must be completely covered by socks. Shoes/Cleats All players must wear shoes. A shoe shall be considered official if it is made with either canvas or leather uppers or similar material. The sole may be smooth or molded with soft rubber or plastic cleats. The cleats should be rounded, non‐abrasive, tapered uniformly on the sides and not develop a cutting edge. The cleats shall not be screwed into the sole (detachable). No metal spikes, cleats with metal tips, or polyurethane spikes or shoes similar to metal sole and heel plates will be allowed. Vibram FiveFinger shoes will not be allowed. Players may not wear cleats with a toe cleat (found commonly with softball, baseball, lacrosse, and football cleats.) The officials and supervisors on duty have the authority to disallow any shoe that they feel would endanger the person wearing the shoes or his/her opponent. Balls Teams are responsible for bringing at least one game ball (size 5). In the event neither team provides a game ball, both teams will receive a forfeit. Illegal Equipment A player shall not wear anything that is construed as dangerous by the official. Examples of this are: All jewelry (i.e. necklaces, earrings, rings, string bracelets, chains, etc.) Headgear (i.e. caps, bandannas, clips, etc.) o Exceptions: Yakima, turbans, winter/wool hats with no hard brims, and one‐piece head/sweat bands that do not have to be tied and are elastic in nature. A guard, cast, or brace made of a hard substance, not covered by proper padding at the discretion of the official. First warning of illegal equipment is at the captain’s meeting prior to kick‐off. The official has the authority to issue yellow cards on any instances once the game has started.
FIELD SPECIFICATIONS Goal Box When the ball is in or on the line that defines the goal box, there is no ball contact allowed. o However, all players may pass through the goal box as long as they do not touch the ball while it is the box. If the ball comes to a rest on or in the goal box, a goal kick is awarded regardless of who touched the ball last. If a defensive player touches the ball after it has entered the box, a goal will be awarded to the offensive team. If an offensive player touches the ball after it has entered the box, a goal kick will be awarded to the defensive team.
SCORING Modifications A goal may only be scored from a touch (offensive or defensive) within the team’s offensive half on the field. The ball must be completely on the offensive half of the field, and cannot be touching the mid‐line (Example: kick‐off). If a player in their defensive half kicks the ball across the midline and the ball hits another player (offensive or defensive) and the ball goes in the goal, a goal will be awarded. If a ball is kicked from the defensive half and is not touched before the ball rests in the goal, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team
START OF PLAY Prior to kickoff, officials will hold a captain’s meeting to review rules, answer questions, and administer the coin flip (i.e. rock paper scissors, odds/evens) to determine end of field and kickoff. Each game will consist of two 10‐minute periods (unless modified by the Intramural Sports staff). To prevent some unsportsmanlike tactical actions, teams will not be allowed to substitute within the last TWO minutes of the game. o The referees have the official time on the field and hold the right to take necessary action if he/she feels that a team is delaying the game. In the event a game ends in a tie during pool play, the game will end in a tie. 2
OVERTIME Overtime only occurs in elimination play. • Overtime shall consist of a 3‐minute “golden goal/sudden victory” overtime period with a coin toss to decide kick‐off/direction. The first team to score in overtime is the winner. If no team has scored in the 3‐minute overtime, the winner shall be decided in a shootout. o Substitutions may not occur during the last minute of the overtime period. • Teams will use the three field players on the field at the end of the overtime period to shoot. • Teams will rotate, alternating with each kick. • Penalty kicks are taken from the half line. o The kicker must wait for the official to start the play on each kick, and then has five seconds to shoot. • If the score is tied at the end of the three shots, the shootout will continue alternating players until one team makes it and the other does not. o No player may attempt a second penalty kick until all players (or all players of that gender, for Co‐Rec games) on his/her team for the shootout has attempted one. This pattern will continue for future rounds as well.
SUBSTITUTIONS Substitutions may be made during dead‐ball situations, regardless of possession. No substitutions may occur in the last 2 minutes of the game. During an overtime period, substitutions may not occur during the last minute.
DELAY OF GAME Any player may be cautioned with a yellow card if it is deemed by the referee that the player is intentionally wasting time.
OFFSIDE There is NO offside in 3v3 Soccer.
RESTARTS Kick Off May be taken in any direction. You cannot score directly from a kick off. • Ball must be completely over the mid‐line to be considered on the offensive half of the field. Kick‐Ins The ball shall be kicked into play from the sideline instead of thrown in. The ball is considered in play when the ball is touched and moves one full rotation. • Kick‐ins from the side lines are considered indirect. Direct & Indirect Kick Infractions All dead‐ball kicks (kick‐ins, kick‐offs, free kicks, drop balls, corner kicks) are indirect with the exception of penalty kicks. Goal Kicks May be taken from any point of the end line. Drop Ball After temporary suspension of play, either for injury or official's time, the ball shall be placed in play by a "drop ball", if neither team is in clear possession. Drop balls must touch the ground before being played. If either player touches the ball before it hits the ground, the drop ball shall be repeated. Five Yard Rule: In all dead‐ball situations (except a drop ball), defending players must stand at least five yards away from the ball. Penalty Kicks • Shall be awarded if, in the referee’s opinion, a scoring opportunity was nullified by an infraction (the infraction does not automatically result in a red card). • Penalty kicks are direct kicks taken from the center of the mid‐line with all players (on both teams) behind the mid‐line. • Penalty kicks are dead ball infractions. If a goal is not scored, the defense obtains possession with a goal kick.

FOULS/MISCONDUCT Slide Tackling Slide tackling is ILLEGAL! A player who slide tackles will result in a stoppage of play and a free kick will be awarded to the opposing team at the spot of the infraction. A yellow or red card may be awarded, as well. Players are allowed to “slide” for a ball going out of bounds, as long as no players are around. It is the official’s discretion as to his/her judgment on the difference of a “slide” and “slide tackle”. Handling Clarification • Deliberate handling of the ball that denies a team of an obvious goal‐scoring opportunity will result in the following: o A penalty kick (at the discretion of the referee) o A card given to the player committing the hand ball (at the discretion of the referee). Cautioned Players (Yellow Card) • Players that receive two yellow cards in one game will result in a red card. (Please see red card rule). Player Ejection (Red Card) • Referees/Intramural Staff have the right to eject a player or spectator from the game for continual disobedience or as a result of an incident that warrants sending off. A team who has a participant ejected, regardless if they were on the field or not, will be required to play down a player for the remainder of the game. The ejected player must leave the facility and may NOT be replaced. The ejected player is automatically suspended indefinitely from ALL intramural sports until the ejected player schedules a meeting and meets with the Student Programs Manager. Should poor sportsmanship occur at any point during the tournament, the Student Programs Manager or Intramural Supervisors reserve the right to disqualify a team from the tournament.
