The US 4-H horse program has an enrollment of over 260,000 – the largest of the animal-oriented projects and one of the most popular projects with great appeal to both boys and girls. Beginning in 1968 as the Northeast Regional 4-H Horse Judging Contest, held at the Keystone International Livestock Exposition, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the activities were expanded in 1972 to include a 4-H Horse Bowl Contest. The event was officially approved as the National 4-H Horse Roundup in 1978. Three new contests – 4-H Horse Public Speaking, 4-H Horse Demonstration-Individual, and 4-H Horse Demonstration – Team – were added in 1982. In 1985, the event became the Eastern National 4-H Horse Roundup and moved to the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky, and a 4-H Hippology Contest was added. The North American and Commonwealth of Kentucky offers outstanding facilities, support and a quality of horses to make this an outstanding program with unlimited potential. Donations from industry businesses, individuals and associations have been instrumental in funding the Eastern National 4-H Horse Roundup. Without their support, along with that of the North American International Livestock Exposition, the Roundup would not be possible. The Roundup is the final educational-competition event for hundreds of 4-H members from all over the nation. All are state winners and proudly represent their state in this exciting, educational and competitive program. Good luck to all of the current contestants, and best wishes to all who have participated in this exciting event. New York State continues to have a strong representation at this event. The New York State Horse Communication Team placed 10th overall.

Story Telling When children use their minds to create images based on words (rather than being provided with images in a book or on screen), they develop abstract thinking skills – being able to think about something without a real object in front of them. http://extension.psu.edu/youth/betterkidcare/early-care/our-resources/tippages/tips/tell-a-tale
