LOCATION ANALYSIS: SUNDRE WHERE Sundre, Alberta, is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountain on the banks of the Red Deer River, in the westcentral section of Alberta, and is easily accessible by car from the two nearest cities - Calgary and Red Deer. Located 40 km west of the Town of Olds, Sundre is 120 km north-west of Calgary or approximately 100 km south-west of Red Deer. EMPLOYMENT Tourism is just one facet of the economic base in Sundre. Sundre Forest Products Inc., a Division of West Fraser Mills Ltd., is an integrated forest product company manufacturing dimensional lumber and treated wood products. The initial employee base has expanded from the original 40 to more than 250 year-round at Sundre Forest Products and an additional 600 seasonal workers in the harvesting and reforestation aspects of the company).
