REFRIGERATORS REF 12-03 All Side-By-Side Electronic Control Steel and Plastic Liner Models Defrost Safety Thermostat Replacement JUNE 2003
Always refer to the replacement part list for the correct defrost safety thermostat on side-by-side electronic control steel and plastic liner refrigerator models. This defrost safety thermostat opens at 140°F and resets at 110°F. There are currently several different part numbers for the safety thermostat, but the only difference is lead length. In the near future, all part numbers will supersede to part WR50X10051, which has the longest lead length.
The defrost cycle on side-by-side electronic control steel and plastic liner refrigerator models is terminated by the evaporator thermistor. The evaporator thermistor terminates the defrost cycle at 70°F. Using the incorrect replacement defrost thermostat can cause the defrost cycle to end too soon. The early end to the defrost cycle can result in an ice block forming on the evaporator which results in consumer concerns of poor performance and may cause additional service calls.
DO NOT use any other replacement defrost thermostat than what is called for on these models.
