HEAD TEACHER’S COMMENTS We had a lovely time during World Book Day where pupils enjoyed various activities. Lower school and Richmond dressing up - the pupils looked great (although there were some very strange adult characters around the school!). There were plenty of fun activities including some of our older students (from our base at JCC) sharing some fantastic interactive books with our younger pupils. The older students had made the books and they were very well thought out and lots of fun. At upper school the students had opted not to dress up but enjoyed their scavenger hunt based on familiar and popular stories. A very successful day - thank you for making/buying/ putting on costumes!. Next week is Red Nose Day and we are asking all staff and children to donate £1 for no uniform and to join the Madhatter’s tea party by wearing a crazy hat or fun coloured hair (I can’t wait to see the creations). Check out our website and facebook page for more photos. Have a lovely weekend.

Key Stage 1 This week we have been enjoying the story ‘Cinderella’ and learning about castles, the children are in the process of making their own junk box castle. We continue to observe our plants growing outside and this week have planted cress seeds so we can watch how quickly they germinate and grow ( remembering to water them of course!). We have also enjoyed preparations for World Book Day and our class Ball. 1RD/DH .This week we continued to look at the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and looked at using different adjectives to describe the characters of Jack and the Giant. In science we planted sunflower seeds and in maths we used money to pay for magical items. Thank you to all the parents for all the wonderful costumes the children were sent in, for 'World Book Day'. Everyone looked fantastic and we all enjoyed selecting our favourite books and creating new characters for a story. Key Stage 2 Key stage two loved dressing up for World Book Day and I saw some fantastic costumes, thank you all for your efforts. I will be collecting in the Book covers next week and will be announcing a winner soon. The homework for this fortnight is 'My Favourite Book'. How about reading your favourite book, re-writing it or acting it out. Maybe you could design a character to add to your favourite story or dress up and take a photo. Have fun and have a lovely weekend. Key Stage 3 Last Thursday 13 KS3 pupils started an ongoing football session at Green Towers. The sessions will be led by a qualified FA coach and will lead to some competitions against other school teams. After watching them play, I was really impressed with their ability and skill. It was good to see some pupils, who sometimes struggle with the social side of things, playing together, showing excellent sportsmanship and controlling their emotions well. On Tuesday the lower site enjoyed 3RK's assembly which involved some exciting Science experiments. It was good to see the pupils leading the assembly with very little adult help. They all spoke very clear and confidently. Homework reminder: My Favourite book - 9th March On Wednesday 11th March a group of KS3 pupils will be attending the NEC for the Big Bang Fair. This is a follow up from the Big Bang day they all attended at Redmoor in December. There will be lots of Science based activities which should be very exciting. Key Stage 4 In English 4LH have been looking at what information we need to fill in forms. We have practised filling them in, knowing what goes where and of course, knowing our own address. and in PSE, the whole class entered a story of going to the doctors, with some excellent work of making phone calls, waiting in the waiting room and of course, seeing the doctor. The animal care group have been learning about food and safety around feeding animals. On Thursday there was a great buzz at the Upper Site as everyone walked around answering questions about books for World Book Day. Key Stage 5 The students are on a scavenger hunt today for World Book Day .They are looking to answer questions around books, characters and magazines. They have 36 questions to answer with a prize for the most answers so good luck to all. The questions have been set by students and staff and are very varied so the students book knowledge is going to be tested. PS. We need 4 pallets to make a bug hotel. Donations welcome! JCC News This week the classes have made books for primary aged pupils, then on Thursday some of the pupils visited the lower school and presented the books to 2HD. They all enjoyed sitting and reading the stories to the pupils. On Thursday and for part of their D of E, 5 of our pupils and 2 from the Upper School, carried out their practice walk around Burbage Common. Although they got very muddy, they all returned keen to talk about their trek. Internship For their BTEC work the interns have been writing about tasks and skills they have learnt in their placements and have set short term goals based on their work experience. In addition, they have created Power-point presentations about their second placements and will practice presenting these. Matthew has gained confidence with his new task checking above ground pipe attributes. He has been gathering evidence from his work placement which included an article he had written about himself for his department magazine called CMAG. Bethany continues to grow in confidence and independence with her Catering Assistant task. On Wednesday Bethany met and talked to an M.P who was visiting National Grid and was interested in The Employability Programme.
