6V6 Dodgeball Rules EQUIPMENT  IM department will supply the game balls. GAME TIME  The game shall be played between 2 teams of 6 players. A team will consist of minimum 4/maximum 6 players  Game duration will be two (2) 12-minute halves.  When time expires, you will play until the game is over and cut time into the second half.  To win a match, the team with the most players standing as time expires will win, or a team must eliminate every participant on the opponent’s team.  If after the 12- minutes are over (during playoffs) and both teams have an even number of players remaining, sudden death will occur.  During sudden death, the players remaining will all enter into the neutral zone, which becomes their new boundary line. The balls will begin at the center line, another opening rush will occur, and the first team to have a player called out will lose the game.  No “Jail Breaks” are allowed in sudden death.  Series win = most game wins. OPENING RUSH  Game begins by placing the dodgeballs along the center line – two (2) on one side of the center hash and two (2) on the other.  Players then take a position behind their end line (touching the wall). Following a signal by the official, teams may approach the centerline to retrieve the balls. This signal officially starts the contest. Doing so will result in he/she being call out.  Once a ball is retrieved it must be taken behind the attack-line before it can be legally thrown.  The “Neutral Zone” is defined as the area between the lines located on each sides basketball 3 point line. All players are allowed in the neutral zone at all times after the opening rush has occurred. IN-PLAY RULES  If you catch a thrown ball in the air by your opponent, then the player who threw it is out.  If a ball pops off you and another teammate catches the deflected ball in the air, then the player who threw it is still in. If the ball pops off you and you continue to catch the ball in the air, now the player who threw it is out.  BLOCKING WITH ANOTHER BALL IS NOW ALLOWED. If you block the ball, pop it in the air and catch it the person who threw it is out. If you block the ball and it hits you other than in the hand holding the ball and you drop it then you are out. If you block it and it hits you other than in the hand holding the ball and a teammate catches it, then everyone is safe.  NO BACK WALL ATTACK. If the ball hits the back wall on a fly and then hits a player, the player is still in. If the ball hits anything other than a person first, the ball is considered dead.  Players are knocked out when: o Hit by the ball below the neck by an opposing team member (not bounced off the floor). o The ball he/she threw is caught by an opposing player.

Any ball making contact with the wall outside of the designated wall boundaries, with the ground, back/side net, floor or another ball on a respective throw will discredit that toss, and eliminate all chances of knocking out an opponent for that throw. In the event that the ball simultaneously hits off the floor and a player’s foot this results in the player being out. If a ball hits an opponent and is then caught by the opposing team, all players remain in the game. Players must leave the court when knocked out and stand in the order they were out. Players may not kick balls to gain possession or attempt to knock out an opponent. A player may return to the game only if a teammate catches a ball. Players must return in the order that they were called out. When a player is knocked out, he/she cannot touch any balls on the floor on his/her way out and attempt to “knock” them to their teammates. Any ball touched on the way out by a knocked-out player, will be forfeited to the opposing team. If a player has possession of a ball when knocked out, he/she may give it to a teammate. If one team has possession of all of the balls, then they have 6 seconds to throw at least 1 ball at their opponents or they will have to forfeit all the balls over.

CO-REC  Teams will consist of six (6) players, including 3 men and 3 women. There must be at least 5 participants checked in to avoid a forfeit. In this case, there may only be one more of each sex (3 men, 2 women OR 2 men, 3 women). BOUNDARIES  During play, all players must remain within the boundary lines.  The boundaries on the side in which the participating teams are will have an out of bounds line. The opposite sides boundary will be the curtain.  Touching the curtain will result in a player being called out.  In the event that a player attempts to use the official within the boundaries to their advantage or touches the official, that player will be called out.  Players may leave the boundaries through their end-line only to retrieve stray balls. They must also return through their end-line.  Players cannot be called out while retrieving a ball out of bounds.  Players may not cross the half court line while retrieving a ball that is out of bounds. ADDITIONAL RULES  Any new rule or rule modification may be implemented during the season by the Intramural Administrative Staff who will inform team managers by email or memo of additions, clarifications, or changes.  Any rule or interpretation not covered in these rules will be governed by the National Federation High School Soccer Rules. Some minor modifications have been implemented for the intramural program to encourage sportsmanship, provide for the safety of the participants and to adhere to time and facility restrictions.  All captains have the option to select which division their team plays in. However, by the discretion of the Intramural Administrative Staff, a team may be moved to a league that best fits their competitive ability.
