7 Things You Should Know About PRISM 1. PEER Mentors and the PRISM Leadership Team Members are available to help you address the questions, ideas, concerns, and aspirations you bring to them. You choose what you want to share with your mentor. 2. Mentees have a right to respect and dignity as human beings and to have their mentor approach them without prejudice regardless of age, color, disability, ethnic group, gender, gender expression, race, religion, sexual orientation, marital status, or socioeconomic status. 3. PRISM Mentors and PRISM Leadership Team Members are trained to have awareness of their own values, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors, and to avoid imposing their values on the students they mentor. Their obligation within the mentoring relationship is to the student seeking their help, who is to be treated as a unique individual. 4. Mentees have a right to privacy, and PRISM Mentors and PRISM Leadership Team Members will only share information about Mentees when seeking advice/consultation from the PRISM Student Coordinator, or Pride Center Coordinator. However, if a student discloses intent to harm themselves or someone else, PRISM Mentors are required to immediately disclose the information to the Pride Center Coordinator. 5. PRISM Leadership Team Members and Mentors are not professional counselors. When a student desires assistance beyond what can be provided in a mentoring relationship, our mentors can refer students to professional resources on and off campus. 6. PRISM Leadership Team Members and Mentors are not permitted to initiate or participate in romantic relationships with the students they advise. 7. PRISM Leadership Team Members are available to be contacted by email at any time during the year. During interruptions, such as school breaks, not all members will be able to respond within 24 hours. If unavailable, PRISM Leadership Team Members will do their best to work around your schedule or refer you to alternative resources.
