7v7 Soccer Winter 2017 Registration/Payment Period: Mach 12th – March 24th at noon *Note*: All payments must be completed on NSU MarketPlace by March 24th at noon Playing Dates: April 3rd – April 21st Team Fee: $50 Intramural Sports Handbook  All participants are required to adhere to the policies of Recreation and Wellness. Fields  Games will be played at the Bill Gessner Sports Complex located on 39th St., next to the elementary school. Players and Rosters  Games will be played 7v7. o A minimum of five players is necessary to start a game with a 2/3 ratio either males/females or females/males.  Co-Rec Modification: o Teams must have at three women and three men on the field at all times. o One gender may not exceed more than four participants on the field at one time.  Substitutions: Any number of substitutions may be made during the following dead ball situations: o Goal kicks and corner kicks o After a goal o During an injury timeout  Eligibility: All participants must be either NSU students or faculty/staff, with an active RecWell membership.  All participants must bring their valid NSU ID to play.  Players must have joined their team’s IMLeagues roster by 4:00PM the day of the game, to be eligible to participate that day. Timing  Games will consists of two 20-minute halves with running time. o Halftime will be three minutes.



Ties will stand during the regular season. For playoffs, a three-minute sudden death overtime period will be played. If the score remains tied after one overtime period, then a penalty shootout occurs. Each team will get four penalty kicks, alternating kicks between teams. NCAA Soccer Rules will prevail, with the following specifics and modifications.

Start of Game Procedures  During the captain’s meeting, rock, paper, scissors will determine who has the choice of choosing which goal to defend, or taking the first kick-off.  Game play will begin with a place kick towards the opponent’s half of the field. At the moment of the kickoff, all players shall be in their team’s half of the field. The opposing team must by outside of the circle until the ball is kicked.  The initial player who touches the ball for the kick-off cannot touch the ball a second time until someone else touches it.  A goal may be scored directly from the kick-off General Playing Rules  Off-sides: There are no off-sides.  Throw-Ins: Throw-ins are taken when the ball goes out of bounds over the sideline. The throw is two-handed with equal pressure and continuous. Both feet must remain on the ground and behind the sideline. o If a player administers an improper throw-in, they will get another attempt to administer a proper throw-in. On the second offense, the other team will be awarded the throw-in at that same spot.  Goalkeepers: Hands and arms may be used to stop a ball from scoring while standing in the goalie’s box. Hands and arms may not be used outside of the goalie’s box. Hands and arms may not be used to receive a pass back from the feet of a teammate. o Goalkeepers will be allowed to distribute the ball with his/her hands. o Goalkeepers will not be allowed to punt or drop-kick the ball past midfield. If the ball is punted past midfield, the opposing team will gain possession at midfield for an indirect kick as a penalty.  Corner Kicks: Corner kicks occur when the ball crosses the end line (not a goal) and is last touched by a defender. A goal can be scored directly on a corner kick. Opponents must stay at least ten yards away from the corner kick.  Goal Kicks: Goal kicks occur when the ball crosses the end line (not a goal) and is last touched by an offensive player. Goal kicks are kicked from anywhere on the end line, within the goalie’s box. Opponents must be outside the goalie’s box until the ball crosses the line of the goalie’s box. A goal may not be scored directly from a goal kick.  Free Kicks: Opposing team players must stand at least ten yards away from the spot of the free kick. The ball must be completely motionless prior to the kick.  Slide Tackling: Slide tackling will NOT be permitted in Intramural Soccer. Players in violation of this rule will be penalized as follows: o Sliding within the general area of players (within 5 yards) – Yellow Card o Sliding and making contact with an opponent – Red Card  Dangerous Play: Dangerous play is when a player attempts to kick the ball near an opponent, above the waist. If an official deems a play as dangerous, the player will be penalized as follows:

Dangerous play within the general area of players (within 5 yards) with no contact to the opponent – Yellow Card Dangerous play and making contact with an opponent – Red Card

Penalties and Fouls  A “direct” free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player: o Commits a handball o Kicks, strikes, jumps at/on, or attempts to kick or strike an opponent o Trips or attempts to trip an opponent o Other than the goalkeeper in his/her own goal box area, deliberately handling the ball o Pushes or holds an opponent with hand(s) or arm(s) extended from the body o Charges an opponent (including the goalkeeper) in a violent or dangerous manner  An “indirect” free kick is awarded to the opposing team if: o The ball is played next by the kicker following a kick-off, a free kick, a penalty kick, a goal kick, a corner kick, or by the thrower following a throw-in o A player who is not in possession of the ball obstructs an opponent who is attempting to play the ball o A player kicks or attempts to kick the ball while it is in the possession of the goalkeeper o A dangerous play occurs o The goalkeeper takes more than six seconds before releasing the ball for play o The goalkeeper illegally handles the ball while in his/her own penalty area after once relinquishing possession of the ball o The ball needs to be put back into play for any other stoppage of play  Players will be penalized with a yellow card for the following, but not limited to: o An intentional hand ball o Entering or leaving the field of play without the permission of an official o Persistent infringement of any game rules o Verbally or physically objecting any decision given by an official o Use of vulgar or profane language o Unsportsmanlike conduct o Slide-tackling in the general area of players (within 5 yards) o Any delay which prohibits a timely restart of the game  Players will be penalized with a red card and may be replaced by another player for the following, but limited to: o Exhibiting violent conduct o Taunting o A player anywhere on the field (other than the goalkeeper) who deliberately handles a ball to prevent it from going into the goal o A foul by a player against an opponent who is moving toward his/her offensive goal with an obvious opportunity to score o Slide-tackling and making contact with another player o Receiving a second yellow card (Note: Players receiving a red card will be ejected from the game, and must leave Gessner Field before play may continue)

Please read the Intramural Handbook. It contains written descriptions of all regulations and policies that govern participation in NSU Intramural Sports, no matter which sport or activity you play. It’s imperative to the continuity of the Intramural program that all participants abide by the regulations detailed in the Handbook by the Office of Recreation and Wellness. Sportsmanship Guidelines A: Team members participate with excellent sportsmanship within the established rules. B: Team members occasionally complain to the official(s) or supervisor(s) about rule interpretations. Sportsmanship and understanding of the rules is acceptable, but could be better. A team or team member receives a yellow card that is not an unsportsmanlike foul.  Slide tackles – A team member receives a yellow card for a slide tackle. C: Team members consistently complain to the official(s) or supervisor(s). Team displays poor sportsmanship and understanding of the rules. A team or team member receives a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct or a foul.  Slide tackles – A team or team member receives two yellow cards, or a red card for slide tackles. D: A team or team member receives two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. A team or team members receives two yellow cards or a red card for unsportsmanlike conduct or fouls.  Slide tackles – A team receives three yellow cards, or a red card and a yellow card for slide tackles. F: Team members participate with unacceptable sportsmanship. A team receives four or more yellow cards or two red cards for unsportsmanlike conduct or fouls.
