Coach Tom Morris Quoting Coach Morris On The Fall (2005) … The fall season was very solid for us as a team. We worked very hard and it resulted in three very sound tournaments. We won 20 matches in the College of Charleston Tournament, 22 matches in the N.C. State Tournament, and 26 matches in the South Carolina Tournament. Clearly, it might rank as our best fall in terms of overall performance to date.” On The Spring (2006) … “We are hopeful to take our program to the next level this spring. I believe that we have more talent on this year’s team than in previous seasons – we have more depth, we are more experienced so I feel that we are better. We will need to be better this year as we will face a very difficult schedule
both in terms of strength and travel. We will play seven nationally-ranked teams, with six of those on the road. We will play a total of 30 matches, which again, is more than we have
played in the past. It will be critical for this team to remain healthy and to draw on the experience on our two seniors and team leaders – Kirstin Buchanan and Gillie Bailey.”
EXPECTED STRENGTHS
EXPECTED WEAKNESSES
• middle of the singles lineup (Nos. 3, 4 and 5) …. • our No. 1 doubles team … • confidence carry-over from spring ’05 and fall success.
• lack of playing experience at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles … • concern that outcome of match will be decided on doubles point (considering the lack of experience with two-thirds of that aspect of the program … • team health during grueling road schedule … • return of Hannah Priest and Anca Dumitru to the starting lineup after sitting out the entire fall season due to injury.
The ECU Tennis Complex
ast Carolina plays its home matches at the eight-court ECU Tennis Complex located directly behind Minges Coliseum and adjacent to the Ward Sports Medicine Building. The court was recently resurfaced, giving Pirate student-athletes a state-of the-art hard-top surface for competition. The complex is home to numerous home matches each season and the ECU Fall Invitational, a tournament expected to make a return to Greenville in future years.
