WORLD FORUM IN ACTION

NEBRASKA CITY, NEBRASKA The World Forum’s Nature Action Collaborative for Children gathered 70 interdisciplinary teams from 32 nations to create action plans to reconnect the world’s children with nature — October 17-20, 2010. Gathered for the work were health advocates, landscape architects, environmental educators, conservationists, early childhood professionals, horticulturalists, water planners, architects, community gardeners, and others. The teams each chose a focus: adopting public policy, creating naturefriendly spaces for children, supporting families, hosting conferences and community forums, and creating multidisciplinary college courses. They worked within their teams and also with coaches and others with the same focus to take the planning of their initiatives to new levels. The World Forum commitment as a featured project of the Clinton Global Initiative is that 2,000,000 children will be impacted! Participants at the Action Forum were very aware of their responsibilities in making this commitment a reality. The World Forum is deeply grateful to the NACC Leadership Team for leading the World Forum to this experience. Dimensions Foundation, Lied Lodge staff, and Arbor Day Foundation all greatly supported this work by believing in the mission of reconnecting children with nature.

In addition to the training received at the Forum, the teams will be supported by an online Environmental Action Kit sponsored by IBM Global Work/Life Fund and created by Dimensions Educational Research Foundation in collaboration with the Nature Action Collaborative for Children.
