9 Bizarre Traditions Around The World That Will Make You Scratch Your Head History & Culture As we all know, societies around the world possess different traditions, norms, laws, and customs that could be relative or entirely opposite. Using a certain individual as a point of reference, he or she could be an instrument to infer that a very respectable or sacred cultural activity in his or her area may appear disturbing, offending or mind-fucking when he attempts to do or show it to another society.  Now, these 'somehow' weird traditions cannot be avoided anytime, anywhere. There must be a high level of respect as well as understanding about our diversity and clashing of cultures. So, the best thing to do is to know about them and learn to give enough cultural appreciation when these are witnessed in person. For your information, here are some of the weirdest and unusual cultural activities you could see somewhere in the world.

1. Satere-Mawe Tribe for Bullet Ant gloving

Young boys of this Amazonian tribe have to wear mitts on their hands filled with bullet ants (an ant species that bites as if your flesh is shot by a bullet!) and dance for ten minutes. This tradition, for them, serves as the rites of passage to manhood.

2. Hindus Thaipusam

This is a Hinduist gesture that honours the victory of Lord Murugan over devilish elements. Participants or devotees who claimed to have been peacefully possessed by godly elements (trance as they call this phenomenon) pierce metals through their flesh without inflicting any pain. That's how miracles work for them.

3. Bhutan 'Night Hunting'

Night hunting, also known as Bomena in the eastern Himalayans, is a pre-marriage tradition where it is legal for unmarried men to get into houses of spinsters for a night (for, you know, whatever that's possible for them to do). Then, if a male got caught, he's either pressured to marry the girl he stayed with, or he has to perform labour in girl's father's fields.

4. Japanese Penis festival

You will definitely say "Penis is coming!" as you witness this celebration. Alright, this cultural festival is also called as Kanamara Matsuri. This gesture is a cultural activity celebrated to combat and destroy the teeth-filled vaginal weapon possessed by the demoness.

5. Tidong, Indonesia after marriage prohibitions

Well, in this Asian region, married couples have to refrain from peeing or taking a bath for three days, or else, misfortune will haunt their marriage life. For assistance, they are helped by the married couple's relatives.

6. Dead-filled July and September, Famadihana, Madagascar

Hauts Plateaux in Madagascar celebrates Famadihana where families of the dead annually cover and replace their dead remains (bones, etc.) with white cloth for cleansing, and as a way to ask blessings and guidance to the dead. The remains of the dead are sometimes being roamed around to the city.

7. Amazon tribe to consume human flesh

Yanomami tribe practices cannibalism, but with their relatives as the food. Instead of plain burying, they believe that eating the body of the dead will entirely help him/her to get in peace. Family members will also eat the ash of the dead (incorporated in a plantain soup) coming from its bones and other non-edible body parts.

8. Wodaabe tribe's Gerewol Festival

Imagine that this festival is a major beauty pageant, but with males as the contestants. They have to make themselves very impressive (by dancing and other gestures) in order to convince people they're courting with.

9. Baby throwing in India

Indian toddlers in a local province are urged to try Baby throwing, a gesture will bring the luck and goodness to the child.
