9U Travel Tournament Teams
SWS Baseball 10/9U Travel Tournament Teams Overview In the interest of providing additional playing time/experience for our internal 10U program, SWS is proposing the introduction of Travel Tournament Teams after the in-house season has concluded. All kids participating in the 10U program will be invited to a tryout(s) (dates to be determined), where the Commissioner and Coaches will use our new Roster/Team Selection Process to put the kids through a formal evaluation. This tryout will not be the only component used to select kids for a specific team(s), the regular season and coaches’ recommendations will be factors in the selection process.
Goal The main goal of providing an added Tournament Team Option to the boys at 10U is to provide some extra playing time to develop skills. Although any team that is put together will want to be competitive and desire to win, we want to win the right way. All boys picked for these teams will share playing time per our in-house league meaning they will get to play an equal amount in the field and plate appearances. Coaches will be cognizant of developing players versus a win at all cost mentality.
Teams Depending on the number and the ages of the kids willing to participate the Commissioner and Coaches of 10U will determine the following:
How many teams will be created? What age groups will they participate in? o 10U o 9U The number of kids on each team? o Target 12-15 kids per team o Can vary due to: Time of year (vacations) # of Tournaments/Games thus needing extra Pitching Quality of play Coaches willing to Coach? o How many coaches (Head & Assistant) that are willing to Coach will possibly determine the number of teams? Costs o Parents willing to pay any additional money to participate in Tournaments? o What if any costs will SWS pickup? Maybe set a specific budget/cap of dollar amount that SWS could/would contribute max $500?
Can 9U kid play on 10U team? o If no 9U team then yes. o If 9U team then no. Uniforms and Sponsor o Identify Sponsors for potential teams prior to beginning of season and have them slated to be sponsor(s) of these team(s). o Get new uniform shirts (use standard SWS Hats) with SWS Logo and Sponsor for the Tournament Team(s)
Tournaments Commissioner and Coaches will look to identify local travel tournaments during the season so they can be targeted for participation for the tournament travel teams. The team(s) can target tournaments anywhere from mid-June to mid-August and should be agreed upon by parents of the team once selected.
